Im new, (and a girl) so i might ask a stupid question... I am recording my voice and a guitar on two seperate tracks. They both sound fine when played by themselves but when i mix them together I get terrible crackling and hissing noise like distortion. my guitar is acousic electric and i am plugging it right in the sound card/preamp (M-Audio- fast track pro)Is there anything i can do to get rid of this noise? thanks

You should fill out your profile with the software you are using, what kind/size/speed of computer you have, and any other gear you have so we have a more complete picture of your set up.
Have you tried pulling back the volume of the tracks when they distort? Is it still distorted then? Any effects on the tracks like limiters, maximizers or anything like that?

Mar 13, 2007 07:46 pm Hmmm, well I'm a guy which guarantees I will ask stupid questions. Like DB asked though, what are you using?
Mar 13, 2007 07:48 pm no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people.

Mar 13, 2007 08:03 pm Nah, like if my wife was crying and I asked "are you ok"? Well of course she's not. Just a stupid question asked for the right reasons :)
Anyway, I am very curious about effects also. When I record I set my buffer to 128 for low latency. Once I start mixing many tracks though and adding some verb it can get very crackly/choppy if I do not raise my buffers to 8k or 16k.

Mar 18, 2007 01:25 pm Yeah, it sounds like a problem with the buffer settings (They're too low).
