I want to build stuff!

In my teenage quest for superior knowledge and my constant lust for audio equipment, I have decided to venture down the rabbit hole of electronic design.

I have collected a number of schematics and part lists for everything from pre's to ring mods. Problem is I don't know what all the squiggly lines do....

Can anybody reccomend any good books/net resources/kit sets to kick off my new passion?

ASAP! Can't wait to get started :-).

Cheers,
C_S

I've always thought squiggly lines mean drink 'til thing get fuzzy, then start building...

Argh, Boyzmum will never forgive me for that advice...

If you can get Radio Shack stuff over there:

www.radioshack.com/sm-ele...pi-2102913.html

We got my son one of these for xmas a few years ago. I had more fun with it than he did. It was very thorough, easy to understand, and easy to follow and make circuits.

Plus, it was a great design platform for my own ideas, as all the necessary stuff was already built into the desk. You just had to put in the components (resistors, diods, ICs, etc), which they provided a bunch of as well.

But, I'm gonna guess you're not able to get stuff from radio shack.

Otherwise, I spent a lot of time trying things, buying bits and pieces to try out, etc. A bread board is a good start, then see if you can get a bag of resistors, and maybe a bag of capacitors.

Start with easy, very easy, as it seems simple, but stuff never works when you get it together =). Seems to always take tweaking after it's built, to get it to work as expected.

Sure is fun though.

Hey Loki, I've got my preamp coming together. I'll put up a blog entry, documenting my prep so far.

pjk, thats a great idea! We can't get radio shack over here but I believe I might have something similar lying around the garage from when I was 7 or so....

Flame, thanks man. Squiggly lines sorted. Now I just need to know what they do lol.

Loki, I'm ordering a D.I. kit to start me off www.Jlmaudio.com . Next'll be a baby animal pre amp :-).
