Hi,
I'm new to the forum, and new enough to PC multi-tracking (so please be nice - and helpful!)
Until now I've been multitracking with a Tascam 424mkIII
www.tascam.com/Products/424mkIII.html
I want to start using my new hi-spec (Dual AMD64, 2GB RAM) PC to record/mix audio.
I've been looking into USB mixers.
First and foremost I'd like to convert my four-track analogue cassettes. For this, I need to take the audio from each track individually and record to seperate tracks on the PC.
The cassette four-track has a seperate phono (RCA) out for each track.
The YAMAHA MW 12 USB mixer has 4 phono ins (ideal) but I believe the USB audio out is only two-track (stereo).

I've also heard talk of needing a multiple input soundcard. The PC came with SB Audigy Advanced MB, which I assume is not up to this. But I'd have thought if the mixer's USB could output at least four channels of audio this wouldn't be a factor.
Can anyone suggest a suitable set-up or perhaps enlighten me a little regarding the ins and outs (excuse the pun!) regarding recording to PC (on a small budget)?
Thanks a mill!

Mar 08, 2007 01:19 pm Hey Peter, Welcome to the HRC.
I think you're right about the mw12. only two channels out.
one option, is a 1010lt. It has 6 rca inputs, plus 2 xlr inputs. This way you could get your tracks into the PC, but still track 2 microphones in the future. It would negate your immediate need for a mixer.
Also, you could get a small mixer, like yamaha or behringer 12/4 type deal, and add a delta 44 or 66. This would get 4 signals into the PC, and give you 4 preamps (on the mixer) for mic duty.
If you're hot for external, then the firepod is a pretty good option, though it's more $$$ than the other options. It has 8 xlr preamps, and connects firewire.
I'd think one of the first two would fit the bill pretty well.

Mar 14, 2007 09:25 pm Hi Peter, you might want to look at something like the Delta 44 from M-Audio. www.homerecordingconnecti...duct=THKMIMD442
Its a pretty fair price and will give you 4 in and 4 outs that can all be used at the same time. I still have one on an older PC and it still works great.
