compression gooin' in, and two pop filters, and be ready for them to be soaked with spray! no joke! and no matter what you do, do NOT let him hold the mic, and make him sing up twards it...place the diaphragm about eyeball height and tell him not to eat it. in fact have him take a step back.

And maybe even try a dynamic mic instead of a condensor, especially if he's all screaming and no singing. Think of him as a guitar cabinet :)

I agree on the dynamic mic also. There are things they do to mics to achieve those sounds that you would never want done to a nice condensor.

this might not be a significant part of recording the vox but my band also does mostly screaming stuff, and as the vocalist i like to turn up the music REALLY loud in my phones, barely hearing my own vocal. It feels really weird to scream in a studio then on stage with tons of noise around u, it really makes me scream out better to be immersed in it. Plus, if your screams r really floating over the music in teh tracking room i find its common for everyone to kind of cringe and think its wrong. Screaming just seems to be a different vocal animal.

i am trying to learn how to control screams a little better. there should be a way to make it sound ragged without shredding your voice completely.

well theres a actual "way" to scream, go to youtube and type in zen of screaming.
theres a certin way u scream so that u dont rip your vocal cords and wreck your voice

I will as well support the use a a dynamic mic for the screamer type vocals. There are some LDC's that will do a fine job but I would not punish any of mine that way, unless as stated above you can keep the vocalist back away from it a bit.

using a condensor is actually pretty great!! i used a Blue Baby Bottle for screams and it was fantastic.. that condensor and using ProTools was sooooooo sweet!! thats only if u got $$$ tho! i used it at a professional studio w/ my band back in da day!
