I am building a home studio in my home. I have a I mac and a keyboard and a sound module. I am producing music of r&b,hip hop, neo-soul and gospel.I am looking to buy logic or another software what would be a good one to start with.
2nd I have been looking at Ik multimedia bundle package as well as the native instruments packages.
I want to be able to make samples with old record as well as things in around me like (human voices) what software would be good for this.
3rd what would be a good VSt software, seeing both packages I have stated above have them what would be the better one? (( if you can give me the top of the line to the least top of the line ,, my budget is semi high))

Thank you all your opinion really would help!

Well sorry for the delay in getting to this post, looks like everyone is out to lunch.

Also welcome to HRC.

Software for the Mac, well Logic is probably a good start for the high end stuff. If I am not mistaken I believe Cubase is also ported for the Mac now as well and will give you better VST support then Logic.

The IK Mulitmedia packages are very good, SampleTank is their best for what you might be looking to do.

I use several of Native Instruments packages and love them.

But of the two I think for your needs SampleTank might give you the most bang for the buck really.

Are you looking to just make beats and such or do you want to record audio into the mix as well?

First let me say thank you for the advice and answering me.

I am looking to making beats and adding vocals later. But another concern of mine is that I was looking into buying a Akai Mpc but was told since I already have a controller that I can create the same feature with software (like sampling break beats and sound into my mix) But I would like to add audio into the mix in a later date.

Basically I am just getting started and want to fine the best rote to start.

That is one reason I wish Cakewalk would port some of the applications to Mac. Their Project 5 version 2 package would be right up your alley for what you are doing. I use it in that manner all the time. They have incorporated a piece in there called the Groove Pane which I will set up breaks and such for DJ sets. It runs fantastic live as well as in the studio. But the synth and sampler softwrae instruments are great, and its loop construction capability is fantastic.

As for doing what you are talking about on the Mac, IK does have the ability to be used like that with a tiny bit of work. And you can simply create and drop your loops and such into Nuendo were you need them with simple copy and paste or drag and drop.

There are tons of freeware apps as well for the PC, I don't think there are as many for Mac but there are some.

Thanks again for getting with me on the subject. You make me wish I had bought a PC. Do I need to have cubase to run Nuendo and if i buy that I might as well buy the Mpc as well what do you think? But thanks again for your help.

Do some googling for freeware or beatmakers for Mac, I am sure there is something out there. Nuendo seems to me to be a bit ambitious, not to mention expensive, for a newbie. For multitracking, I have heard garageband is a great app that comes with Mac's...

I find garageband a bit fiddly for recording, it's ace for podcasting, but recording, far less so. Cubase has always seemed the easiest program to get to grips with for newbies. LE comes free with a bunch of stuff and that'd get you started. All your LE files would work on the full version if and when you decided to upgrade.
