The front is the side with the logo on it.

EQ helps a little with this mic, although I've always kept it EQ'd pretty much flat. It's the high-mids that are exaggerated with this mic, giving it that kinda thin sound. I can't name a specific frequency, but you can just insert a parametric EQ as a VST insert, set it to a somewhat skinny Q, boost by about 6 dB, and start sweeping to find the offending frequency range. Then cut that range by about 3 dB or so.

But remember that its a $60 mic, and you get what you pay for. Its not going to sound world-class no matter how much treatment you give it. But its certainly a good entry-level condensor for us hobbyists.

all my recordings have that mic on at least one track. What I usually do is run it through my behringer preamp, and then in mixing scoop the highs a little bit as it can be very bright. Not a bad mic for the money though, and I'll probably get a few more down the line.

Everything Tadpui says, and everything Loki says...all true. I use this mic through a Behringer mixer and sometime with the MIC100 preamp. It has a cool proximity effect, but get a pop shield.

If you hold the mic up to the light you can see the diaphragm orientation. Just line up to the logo and you're all set.

I've just discovered this... antress.myweb.hinet.net/Modern/ModernChannel.rar

which is a really nice VST. It's quite CPU hungry, but it makes the sound of this mic very professional. Loving it.

wow some of that stuff looks nice. I am going to get the whole collection and see how it works. I dislike CUP hungry stuff though...

yeah that stuff is majorly cpu hungry. I have trie using their modern channel and pheonix plugins on a single track, the thing froze up. Then I tried using another compressor and another brand eq on the master section with 12 tracks playing back, each with their own channel strip plugin, and again, it locked up. My conclusion... these are pretty plugs, but they are too cpu hungry to be of any real benifit to me.

Add it as a VST effect into your track. I find the preset for vocals is a little too bright for use with an MXL990, so you'll need to dial it in to suit (careful there...).

Also, try adding the ModernDeepPurple to your output track. It's a quick "mastering" plug-in. Very nice.

Oh, didn't I see that you were using Magix?
I'm not sure that Magix is VST ready. I think they use (or at least they used to) DX.

tonyd is the resident Magix user around here, and makes some great stuff with it.
