Problem with PC picking up Tascam 122-L

Hey guys, I've seen you help some other people with their 122L's, so this seem like a great place to get info.

I'm trying to work out why Cubase won't record my guitar when I play it through Tascam.

Everything was installed successfully. My computer apparently reads the Tascam (the Control Panel says it's working fine). When I play into the Tascam, the green light comes on (all the switches are on the correct setting) and I can hear the guitar with my headphones coming out of the output of the Tascam.

But then when I try to record anything in Cubase, Sound Forge or AcidPro, it doesn't pick anything up. I checked it Cubase that my line was set to 2 (the guitar input) and all the levels were up, but still nothing! I tried it in SF and Acid because I've used them before to simply record my guitar with the line-in on the back of my pc so I know how they work, but they also picked up nothing.

Is there something wrong with my soundcard settings? When I open up Audio Devices in Windows Control Panel, I have tried setting everything (Sound Playback, Sound Recording, Voice Playback, Voice Recording) to "Tascam 122-L" (which appears in the drop-down menu) but that didn't work. So I tried leaving all of those things set to "SoundMAX Digital Audio" (the original settings) and that didn't work either.

Obviously the Tascam is working ok, because like I said it picks up the guitar and I can hear it through the phones, but for some reason every recording program i use won't pick it up?

If anyone can help, probably talk me through iot using Cubase, since that came with the program and most people would use it.

Thanks!

I MIGHT have found another piece of the puzzle.

In the booklet, it says to open the VST Inputs window, and "verify that the Port field shows the input name of the audio interface you are using", and in the picture in the booklet it says "US-144" in that section (where mine should assumedly say "US-122") - but when I open this on mine it says SoundMAX Digital Audio 1 and 2 ... which is the same thing I mentioned in my first post (what my original sound card is, i think).

Could this be the problem? But if so, you can't change it? It doesn't how how to change it, it just says VERIFY that it's correct, but what if it's not? lol.

Ok, another update.

I fixed that "VST Inputs" part so now it says "US-122L - L" and "USS-122L - R" for the input channels - just like the book says it should.

But I'm still hearing nothing!

Also, I read another thread that said if I've set XP to use the Tascam as all of it's audio and voice input/output devices (which I have), I should be able to play a song through WMP and hear it on my Tascam. Well, I can't! And it's not coming out of my speakers either.

So again, it's obviously something wrong between my PC and the Tascam, because everything is set right, and the Tascam itself is picking up what I play (like I said, I can hear the guitar through my headphones in the TASCAm, and the green light comes on when I play)

I really need help! ANYONE, please?!

So your monitoring from your H/P's, direct is set to off, and the line out volume is up?

Go to device setup in Cubase. Make sure the US-122 is selected.

Then go to VST connections. Make sure both L+R inputs are showing AND that you have s stereo bus output to your US-122

Create a track - Input 1/2 - Output Stereo out.

Make sure the little Record button is armed.

Done all that?

Does the mic input show up recorded?

What does "direct is set to off" mean?

Also, there is no Output - "Stereo Out" ... mine says "Bus 1"

But yes, everything in that I have done. It all seems set up right, but it won't record, and i can't hear anything from my pc through my tascam.

I haven't tried recording anywith with a mic yet (As i dont have one), just the guitar.

Thanks for offering to help btw. Hopefully you have some mroe advice.
