M Audio Fast Track w/ USB

I am a newbie to both this forum and home recording. Been playin guitar for 20+ yrs and now want to do some recording w/ my daughter on vocals. My problem is this.
I bought a M-Audio w/USB and have a couple of different Music editing software packages including Nero, Magix Music Maker 11 Deluxe and even another one that I don't reacall the name.
I plug one end of the cable into my guitar and the other end into the guitar jack located in the back of the M-Audio fast track unit. There is a "guitar"/"Line" button on the back that I assume functions depending on how it's depressed.I've tried both ways, again with no Audio results. There is a Stereo/Mono button on the front configured the same way and I've also tried that in both modes w/o success. I have tried everything I can think of but can't get the recorded sound to play thru my laptop speakers. I've gone into control panel and have tried everything I can think of as far as getting sound out of my speakers but get nothing unless I use the default recorder (which is of very poor quality) that comes w/ Windows. This is with the Sigms Tel Audio hardware that comes with the PC when it was bought. The only way this records and PLAYS is thru the Mic. jack.
I know that the M-Audio (with Session) is recording because while i'm recording and then "play" it, I can see the waves and the volume bars in motion but no sound. Again, I've gone into my Audio properties and have, I think i've tried every possiblity. Does anyone know what these settings should be or if there are other settings that need to be looked at? Can anyone PLEASE help me out. I'm running out of patience and am 99% sure the problem is me. All I want to do is record and then hear the recording!!!!
Thanks in advance for any help and/or suggestions. And sorry for the length of this!!

You need to set the tracks output as well for what ever software you are using. It should be available right in the track view itself. Just assign the track output to the M-Audio output drivers and you should be good to go.
