So the studio is getting there. I now have the live room almost sorted. The control room still needs some treatment for the balance of the mixes.

I've moved over to Cubase SX and the ESP1010 and am still getting a feel for them.

So I decided to share with you all some working projects that have been recorded recently in my new rooms.

The playing and mixing is to be desired!!! but these are new tracks that are straight from a few jams..

Have a listen if you haven't got much else to do. and post any feedback, comments etc that you like.

Abmiance:
I personally liked boosting the 1k7 range about 3-5 dB until the guitar hits overdrive.
Also, sounds like its a little out of tune at around 35 seconds. I also think that there isn't enough kick drum, so I boosted 80hz about 6 dB.

Pineapple Sunshine:
I actually like this as is, maybe the same 1k7 boost but ONLY on the guitar if you can, the rimshots get effected too.

Song 1bis:
The guitar doesn't really have a punch, something about it seems lacking. It also is too soft :P

Prime Age:
I liked this one the most of all! A little more bass drum again, but other then that I personally wouldn't touch it except adding lyrics ;P

I like them all, just a few finishing touches need to be done. And Im a newb myself, so don't take anything I say as... important? reasonable? reliable?

I don't even trust myself yet :P

Holy ****! Prime Age has some killer distortion on that intro and lead parts. Old school fuzz box sound. It sounds like my old Twin Reverb with a Meastro Fuzz-Tone or my old Mosrite FuzzRITE pedals. They both had the huge buzzing sound. Kind of like the Big Muff Pi. Interesting jam sound to the tune itself.

I liked the odd percusion in the begginging as well. Are you going to leave this one as an instrumental? It makes for a good one really.

The only thing I would do is compress the hell out of the bass and get it tighter to compete with that wild screeching guitar sound. It kind of reminds me of later Ventures stuff, which was kind of trippy and out there for the surf image they had.

OK on to the others.

Ambiance, nice slow mover at first and then here comes that fuzzed out guitar again. What pedal is he using? On this one I would honestly step back that fuzz just a little bit to help the intricate guitar part stand out just a little more. The bass however on this one stands out well on its own. The drums might be just a little bit on the loud side of the mix and could come down a little bit.

PinappleSunshine got me smiling instantly. Nice surf feel to it, but I kept waiting for that killer fuzz to come in. On this one the guitar itself could come down in the mix a little bit as it is a bit over powering at times.

Song 1 bis. Was there no bass in this mix yet? The balance between the guitar and drums were good. And fuzz guitar kicking in is at a good level there. Just add some bass to the mix and your good. Another nice jammy sounding tune for sure.

You need to make Prime Age downloadable when you get it finished. That one is killer and would make a good road tune.

And hey, you need to put up some in progress pictures of the studio as well.

Thanks for the input guys....

The guitar setup used was les paul - Fender rock pro head - carlsbro speaker cab from the 70's and yes Noize a BIG MUFF original!!!!! also a bandit amp on some other stuff. The bass was DI'd except pieapple sunshine where that is just an ambient sound from overheads and kick. and on Song 1bis no bass line as yet!!

As stated these are early days for these trax.

Prime Age -

Noize - I'll compress the bass some more and let you know what gives. The percussion at the beggining and middle of the song is my 10" tom wound right up and being picked up from an overhead. I'mm going to see if I can bring it out some more.... leaving this one instrumental infact is a darn good idea cheers mate!! and it will certainly be downloadable when done.

neoific - I agree certain parts of the track cover the kick more than others i'll have a look

Ambience -

Noize - That BIG MUFF again but through a peavy bandit amp. I agree with stepping it back a notch and lower the drums a tad.

neoific - Being out of tune? that is a 'disonor' use of a strings and boosting the 80hz too much on this kit seems to kill the natural sound of the kick. but i hear what you are saying.

Pineapple Sunshine -

Noize - Yeah he guitar is too high, I was getting tired at this point after a long hard day at work!!!!

Neoific - The 'rimshots' are in fact Latin Blocks. and it wasn't a full set up recording that's why you have tht 60's hollowness, live feel to it - which I love!!!!

Song 1bis -

Noize - No bass at the moment will hopefully do that tommorow.

neoific - The idea of this song is not to be too in your face with anything and keep the originality of the track. that's why the guitars are lower set.

Thanks again you gus for the input i will be working like mad to get these to better levels!! Have a gone

Kaos, ya that is a pretty distinctive fuzz tone. Although it is really cranked. I can still get that in my POD xt and the UX-2 using the emulation of the boxes. There is a Fuzz Face emulation that is killer for that kind of stuff as well.
