Home Studio Setup

What's up everyone? I've been a guitarist for many years, but am new to recording. I've been doing some recording with an MR8 with the CF. I was using the internal mic, which was surprisingly not as bad as I thought it would be. I basically record just as a hobby, and to keep track of some things I come up with. Basically, I just do guitar tracks(acoustic and electric) vocals, and every now and then some light percussion for a little bit of rythym. I recently got some gear through MF, and just thought I would run it by just to see if I didn't think of something. Here is all the gear I have;
MR8
Headphones
Mic Stand
MXL 990
(2) Nady CM-88 Condensers
M Audio monitors
Pop Filter

I know I will need phantom power with this set up and was thinking about the Beheringer PS400. Other than that did I miss anything??? Like I said, this is just a hobby and for personal use, so I know some may not like the type/quality of the set up, and I will make changes to it based on how it works for me, but I would appreciate any info on something I might have missed.

Thanks!

Some mic cables ;)

But really, that's a pretty nice setup with some decent mics. I have the M-Audio monitors also, pretty ok for what I do.

Hehe, I kid I kid. But yeah, you have everything you need to start mixing and have nicer gear than alot of us here probably started with. The only thing I could even reccomend would be an outboard compressor/limiter for when recording vocals, but shoot, I don't even have one yet and get good results.

I think once you start diving in you'll know what you need if anything. Can't wait to hear some stuff.

Welcome to HRC.

It does appear you have the makings of a great start for getting tracks down. I'm with Tripps as well, can't wait to hear some now music from you.

Thanks for the input. Once I get the Phantom power and get all this hooked up, I'll let you know how it works out.

I couldn't tell from the spec sheet but I thought the MR8 had phantom power, but I guess not.

If you are looking for just a simple but effective and quiet little unit try looking for something like the Audio Buddy from M-Audio. It is a simple and clean little unit that is a 2 channel pre amp and has phantom power as well that is switchable on/off. They are pretty easy to find even used if you have say a Music Go Round or something similar nearby.
