Recording problem - UCA200 USB Sound Card

Hi guys.

I hope somebody can help me with this because it is driving me crazy! Let me start off by describing my home studio set up.

Behringer Xenyx 1204 Mixer
UCA200 USB Sound Card (Supplied with the mixer)
Behringer MS40 Monitor Speakers
Adobe Audition 1.5

Ok now the problem. (Hope this makes sense). I've recently just upgraded my studio to the above equipment but now I am having problems recording my songs.

I've connected the main mix output of the mixing desk to the input of the UCA200 soundcard.

I then have the output of the same soundcard going to the input of the monitor speakers.

And the the soundcard is connected via USB to my computer.

Now the problem I am having is not being able to hear what's being recorded on the microphone through the speakers or headphones. No mute button is enabled on the mixing desk and all faders are turned up. I cannot for the life of me figure out why this is occurring since I had no problems at all with my last set up.

I thought maybe the Microphone port was muted so I went into windows recording mixer to investigate but it only gives me the playback options and not recording.

Somebody please help.

Hey, welcome to HRC.

is there a "monitor" button or something in the software for the tracks? First off, lets trouble shoot and figure a little bit out. With your usb soundcard selected, and the speakers pluged into the outs of it, can you hear any sounds being played back at all? Winamp, a CD, a movie, anything come out of them at all?

If so, lets move onto the next part.

Go and record a sample take. Don't worry about hearing it coming out as you record it, just watch the waveform. Do you have a signal going in?

Yup I can play all other audio fine! And when I record it registers and when I play it back I can hear it. So there defo is a signal going in!

Its just a matter of hearing it as I record!

Thanks for your help!

well that cuts down on potential problems then. My first thought on here is that someplace on the track in audition there might be a button to hit that will allow you to monitor in real time. That, or does your soundcard have a control panel that has something like a monitor mix section? Sorry, just never used that gear before so I am kinda guessin

No the soundcard doesn't have any buttons. Its just a simple in/out.

There was no software with the soundcard as well. Its just plug and play.

Also everything in Audition seems to b set up correctly! I've gone into device properties and configured everything!

I'm totally baffled!

First off go here and download the ASIO drivers package. www.behringer.com/05_supp...ds.cfm?lang=eng

This may help get things rolling if you don't have it installed already. Next you should be able to select the output driver for the UCA200 in the track you are recording. This is important to have the output selected or you will get what is happening now.

Also in the Audition mixer or preferences you should have a selection for input monitoring. Turn that on and it should be OK.

I've done all that but still have the same problem. I'm just so confused now as to where the problem lies.

There are a few here using Audition, hopefully they will catch this post. I have run out of ideas as well. It has to be either a limitation of the interface or Audition. Although I doubt it is Audition as I know many of these guys use it and don't complain about that happening with the interfaces they use.

Da Brakes, go to Options > Device Properties > then look under the "Wave In" and "Wave Out" tabs to see if your sound card is selected in both of those places.

Edit - sorry I didn't read the posts thoroughly. It appears you already did that.

Now I'm baffled too. Must be a USB issue, with which I am totally unfamiliar.
