I'm wondering how folks feel about the GNX3 or rolands GR-9. with the way technology has grown now do they offer the guitarist a lot for recording now? Or are there better ways?

Well in all honesty there is no competition when it comes to Line 6 and amp modeling. I use both a fully loaded POD xt and the Line 6 Toneport UX-2.

I started using the Line 6 POD back in its first version and have not looked back at all. There are many good ones out there, but Line 6 has invested much more time and talent in the modeling tech then most of the other combined.

The UX-2 is an excellent piece of gear as it not only does guitar amp and cab, but bass amp and cab as ell as some killer microphone pre amp emulation's. And they are emulations of some very high end pre amps. I have been using them for a bit of time now and tweaked them to perfection. I love that little piece of gear.
