Need MAJOR help with vocals

Here's my situation. I'm in a band that doesn't require a whole lot of vocal ability. But we're doing this song that requires a "lighter" singing part. No matter what I know I'm not going to like my vocal take but I need some advice for me to hate it less.

Basically I can hit the correct notes but the quality of the notes aren't the best I've heard to say the least. What effects, techniques, tricks ANYTHING can I do to make it sound like I can almost sing.

Any help will be more than appreciated.

I guess u could try some chorus to give them some richness and some pitch correction. but in my exp. u can only be confident in ur vocals when ur confident with ur vocals... no amount of effects and modulations can get rid of the grudge u hold against ur own voice u know? if u say u can sing in key, then thats all u need to be a good singer. dont compare ur voice with others ull always come up short coz ur u and not anyone else, i mean look at billy corgan from smashing pumpkins his voice is sooo scratchy and high pitched, but hes a really successful singer coz hes confident and he delivers the music well in his own way. just sayin man

Musta been a momentary lapse of server...any time a date is requested but there is no data from which to formulate the date (or the data is invalid) you get Dec 31, 1969...it's weird...I'll give ya that...I deleted your empty post. Thanks for playing, try again! :-)

lately ive been making the mic really hot- then getting right on it (so you can almost hear me breath) and coming in just above a whisper. It runs me out of breath fast-but the quality of my vocals has improved alot. then when i master, i put "normal" compression, and a little reverb (small room, mostly dry mix) the perfect example is www.nowhereradio.com/tonyd1970
and listen to inthesun acoustic. overall its poop, but thats what i did for the vocals.

No, like pushing the meters to borderline clipping, don't let it clip, but get the signal as close as humanly possible without the clip. Plus, then compress to bring up the quiter parts...

I dont know why, but it sounds better to me. I just got a little mixer so im playing around to figure out how to use it. having limited ability means you must rely on equipment to help!
