I bought an M-Audio sound card, and to my surprise I found out that tons of recording equipment and programs cant be used on XP Media Center. Now my question is there anyway I can get it to work on there? Or, since I have XP Pro aswell, should I just go and install XP Pro, if so how do you suggest I do that? Please reply quickly, wanna get this solved. Thank you.

Dec 05, 2006 10:26 pm I am not sure why they don't work, but I have read that as well. I geuss honestly if you have XP Pro then I woudl definately use that instead.
Problem being is the only way is to do a fresh install as it will over write Media Center. I guess if you really want to keep media center running I would invest in another hard drive and install XP Pro on that one and then get a removable drive bay and just swap out the OS drives when you want to switch between XP media center and XP Pro.
Dec 05, 2006 11:04 pm Ok, I was reading that the problem was with the Media Center 2005 edition. I have the 2002 edition, is there any difference? Will it work for the 2002?

Dec 05, 2006 11:08 pm Now that I am not sure about. I would suggest giving it a shot. All that will probably happen is the install will fail if the software isn't compatable. Although it could install and just not work. You might want to dig a little farther.
I know a couple peep's around here have mentioned using media center, but I don't know which version.
Dec 05, 2006 11:16 pm I've installed it, then I installed Pro Tools and it said there the M-Audio hardware wasn't found. But I can get sound out of it, so I'm not really sure if it's working or not.
Dec 06, 2006 04:28 pm Ok, now I got a new problem. I'm running Media Center and XP Pro on my computer now, and I need to know how to set up XP Pro for the video controller, the audio controller and that stuff. And I was wondering if there is anyway I change the amount of hard disk space given the XP Pro.

Dec 06, 2006 11:19 pm What do you mean by amount of HD space given to XP Pro? Are you talking about the page file size?
Dec 07, 2006 12:04 am I mean, partitions.

Dec 07, 2006 09:25 pm That one I am not sure about. I have never run a dual boot system with tow OS's on it. And I don't use partitions either so I wont be of much help there. Hopefully someone with a bit more background on that will pop by and fill ya in.

Dec 08, 2006 12:16 pm partition magic will do that, but it might kill the partition you're taking space from. For the expense involved, I'd just redo the PC, as that experience is always good to have. (that's assuming you are doing this on a fresh PC).
There might be some freeware / shareware utilities around to help re-partition, but I haven't tried them.
