Drum machines...

I own a ZOOM MRS-802 Digital Recorder (8 track). It comes equipped with a built-in drum machine. I have the capability to create my own drum patterns, but have found it to be a bit restricted. Is it possible to have a seperate unit to create drum patterns on (drum machine) and then transfer them to my digital recorder to use in a project? If so... anyone have any recommendations as to which products work best?

I believe that you can sync and external drum machine to your song, but the only way to actually get that machine's pattern into your Zoom is via the audio input. The MIDI in will only help you edit/play the patterns already pragrammed into your ZOOM. I won't suggect any drum machines as I don't feel comfortable enough with them (I use Groove Agent 2 on my PC).

Anything from Roland or Boss will work fine for you. As well there are several good ones from Zoom themselves that are a good working unit. It will partly depend on the price you wish to pay as to what I might recommend.
