Windows + Mac?

Hey HRC -

Heres the situation. I currently am running Nuendo on a windows based PC in my home studio. My friend is looking to begin a home studio of his own, and he wants to ensure that we can work on projects together at both locations (i.e. the data needs to transfer from his studio to mine). However, he is leaning towards a Mac. Is it possible to transfer Mac files to a PC as long as the recording software is the same? My gut feeling is no, because I'm sure the audio files are of a different type. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I do believe that you will be able to simply exchange the files as Nuendo is cross platform for Mac and PC. But if he isnt going to use Nuendo, then your only hope will be to use OMF files which will allow it to be opened in any application that supports OMF files.

the swapped hard drive will need to be FAT32 fs...unless Mac magically supports NTFS write now... which I doubt... FAT32 is fine for audio... won't handle massive video projects though...

If it is just going from one computer to the other once; Mac reads NTFS fine... lack of write support is just marketing... XP can handle HFS+ with additional 3rd party utilites for about $50... the lack of support is also just marketing... HFS support was actually removed from windows NT derivatives.

I frequently go between my Mac and my old Windows XP machine. I record in GarageBand, but sometimes like to use my old Cool Edit Pro for some things, and of course I like to use Har-Bal, which is Windows only. I save tracks and things as WAV files and move back and forth effortlessly.

But you're probably not talking about raw audio, you're probably talking about session information and all that stuff as well.

Of course, I have no idea if that's a possibility!
