This is a Death Metal song
I would love to get feedback on the overall mix of this song and the song (song writing) as well. Any and all comments are welcome good or bad.

Info:
4 guitar tracks 1 80% left, 1 80% right, 1 100% left , 1 100% right
1 bass track centered
1 drum machine track centered
1 main vocal track with some 2nd track fill-ins
The guitars are all done with my V-Amp Pro. 2 tracks with the Off-Axis Cabinet and 2 tracks with the Vintage 78 Cabinet. I also used the V-Amp Pro to record the bass track as well.
Here are the lyrics as well if anyone is interested:

Oct 31, 2006 07:24 pm The guitars were well done. The extreme panning seems to work well there. The tones worked well for the type of music you are doing.
The bass could stand to have a bigger dose of punch to it. It is a bit burried in the mix. Try to find a portion of the EQ spectrum that wont upset the guitar tone and try a little boost there. And compress the living daylights out of it.
The drums are a tough call though as you are using a drum machine and getting some extremem punch might not be easy as you have no way to seperate each seperate drum and cymbal to EQ them properly. You could mess around with some comresion and EQ though to see if you can give them a little more power in the lower Eq range.
The vocals come to the front eventually but start out a little behind everything. I would try to even them out through the entire mix if you can. Again compresion/limiting there will help level the entire vocal track out.
Otherwise it sounds like you have a pretty good track going there.
Oct 31, 2006 09:19 pm yeah i gotta agree, the bass and drums are the weakest links.....set the drums up with a bit more compresson (fast attack and fast release)....there's no low end in 'em either...the guitars and vocals are ******' spot on. as for bass, all i can say is that this style dosn't really require the bass to 'stand out' so you can get away with it, it's just there to thicken up the guitars....but i gotta sub on this POS home PC and i'm havin' to crank it to hear the lows....again' you can get away with the bass beein' as is, but them drums have a 'giney

Nov 08, 2006 10:42 pm What will the compresson (fast attack and fast release) do for the drums? Do you think I need more low end in the kick or the overall drums themselfs?

Nov 08, 2006 10:44 pm Hey Noize2u, thanks for all the feedback. I am going to work a bit on the drums and see waht I can do about the bass as well. At least the guitars see to be fitting well.
I do need to level out the vocals as well.
Thank you!!!

Nov 09, 2006 09:07 am Nice and clean recording- I agree with the above on the drums/bass. the guitars are right there and the vox sit just right. the drums need that heart pounding kick to em with the bass right there with em.
I still give it a thumbs up.
good stuff

I added some compresson to the bass guitar and the over all drum track.
I think it sounds a bit muddy now especialy when the fast parts kick in. Let me know what you think.

Nov 11, 2006 12:43 pm Well that last one is definately sounding much better. I do agree on the others being a bit on the muddy side for sure.
I think you are getting a handle on getting things to share space in the mix now. At least this version sure sounds that way. The vocal is no longer being hidden as it was in the earlier version. The guitars are shining through much better as well and the bass is now setting nicely were it should alongside the guitar sound. The drums have improved nicely as well.
I would say I think youare definately getting the hang of it here.

Nov 13, 2006 05:49 pm Aye, your welcome Peter. And trust me, we all never stop learning. Even at my age I'm still learning new things as I go. They never stop coming out with new gadets and software.
