Just curious, has anyone tried MS Vista yet while recording? If so, what recording platform RU using etc. I wonder what cmpatibility issues there are, I would imagine it can run 32 or 64 bit eh ?

From what I have read, Sonar is the only recording platform that is complete and ready to run in Vista. It is the first as well to have been taking advantage of the 64 bit move and is the only app doing both 32 and 64 bit in one single install.

I did see a video snippet from Cakewalk on running Sonar in Vista. It appeasr they worked hand in hand with Microsoft to develop Sonar and their other products to be 32/64 bit/Vista ready.

I have Vista installed but since very few if any 'pro' sound cards have drivers, even if the recording app would work it won't work very well without a sound card. <G> Drivers are availble for Creative cards & the AC97 built-in's, but I no longer have my Audigy2 in the computer.

I think Noize is right that Sonar is about the only one that will work right now assuming you can get a driver for your card. Audition won't even install.

Having played around with Vista I don't plan on upgrading till XP is no longer viable, or it's proven that Vista will do the job better.

I'm with OD and dB and waiting for it. Number one reason being the initial price for an upgrade will be out of this world. So that is my main want. And as well, the driver issues will be another reason to wait.

And I'm now to the point of not wanting to be a test bed while they work out the bugs. I went through that with XP and wont do it again.

With Microsoft it just doesn't pay to take the first release of anything. I got IE7 at work because it was part of my job, but I haven't at home...MS just doesn't release stable enough products at first. With something as important as the operating system, well, I'll wait until the user community accepts it.

Vista seems pretty stable but then I can't do much with it either since my sound card isn't supported. lol I'm not so much worried about Vista being a stable OS, as the apps I want to run on it. That and the pricing on Vista for what most of us would want is going to be pretty steep and pretty confusing as to which one to get I think.

I've been using IE7 since the first beta and it's been very stable.

I'm running IE 7 on the studio box. Although it doesn't go online except to download updates from known websites. And it s been pretty usable for the most part. Although I did have major trouble trying to run the updater for Nero AG. It appears IE and windows think Nero has an update to fix the problem, even popped up automatically to tell me so. The only update Nero has for the web update applet is for Nero 6. And thats where the link from MS brought me. Nothing for Nero 7 Ultra. But other then that, its been great.

Yeah, it's stable, but the first few version were ALL messed up on how it renders code...it seems pretty solid now tho.

I'm picking up another PC soon. One with a Conroe chip in it. I'm buying it with media center 05 and setting it up for the wife on our TV.

It comes with the free vista upgrade coupon which can be a good or bad thing. With Media center you get vista home premium *thumbs up* but with an XP Home you get vista home basic which is very craptastic.

Other than that, I will upgrade my recording station when I read that things are stable. If the launch goes fantastic and everyone says so, then by all means I will upgrade. If it is plagued with bugs then I will wait for SP's.

I really am excited to use a 64 bit OS with Adobe Audition and 8 GB o Ram :) Ok, maybe not 8, but at least more than I can now. A 64 bit OS, with 64 bit software and 64 bit memory management, it will be a glorious time for home recording enthusiasts.

p.s. I imagine driver support will ramp up once the release date is getting closer.

Don't hold your breath for Adobe Audtion to even run on Vista much less natively support 64 bit. It's possible the next version will support Vista but I doubt it will be 64 bit. Adobe's support sucks!

M-Audio wont run perfectly on Vista. I mean for a while i can get WMP11 to play on 16/44 but later when changed to 24/48 the i seem to lose the driver. Had to reinstall but still no improvements.

Cheap & old graphic cards wont support the aeroglass features.. huhu.. for ATI must be above 9500 series.

Memory burden doubled than XP.. at normal usage 480MB; luckily mine is about 1GB but yet thats almost 50%..

Antivirus - must choose Betas from 3 companies that Microsoft recommended.. Sucks.

I guess Sonar 5 will run better on XP than this. Shouldve listened to dB to wait till SP2.. After this must reinstall XP.. huargh!

Once Vista is ready, then everything will be awesome..!! Err or maybe if we can afford most of the latest hardwares now..??
