So I have been telling a friend of mine for years that he need to be in voice acting and he wanted to do it but was a little nervous about it. I pushed him to come over and let me record a demo reel for him and put a little music behind it. Well he submitted the demo to a national voice talent agency which lead to an audition. They called him today and ask him to come in and sign on with them! He going to get to leave the day job and do what he wants to do for a living. I'm excited for him so I just wanted to share. Take care guys!

That's fantastic. Congrats to your friend, and good on you as well, for helping him out.

Yeah, what's the poop on the talent agency? I'd be curious about that as well.

talent agencies arn't hard to get signed to... the main requirement is that they think they can use you and that you show up to the job... the really hard part is avoiding the scams because generally (atleast for acting and modeling) theres maybe three agancies per major city... though there will be 50 in the phonebook... general rule= if they ask for any money at all, then it's a scam.

the nice thing as often they are non-exclusive...

what agency did he get?

Yeah, agents are pretty easy to come by in any business, they always try to get you to sign exclusive rights because if they can't find you work, then they know darn well nobody else is either. It's a lousy, crooked racket sometimes, but there are some good ones out there.

He is going to be with www.studiocenter.com/ I was checking it out and found that most of the local radio DJ's are with these guys too. So I'm hoping for my friends sake its a good company.
For the Demo he got some fake ad copy to read and I added some music and sound effect behind his reading. Then we cut it down to about 10 or 15 seconds for each mini-ad. I think it could only be about 1:30 long.

I wish your friend well. Voice actors face the same employment challenges as other actors. It's a highly competitive field.

I'll leave it at that.
