Is Sonar 4 Producer Edition exclusively for MIDI recording/synthesizing?

I got my studio equipment in the mail a couple days ago and just figured out how to record via, Cubase LE (supplied with tascam us-122L). Since I do have, Sonar 4 Producer Edition, a better program, I would rather use that. I can't seem to do anything with that program. The record button is even greyed out. Everything is connected and works with Cubase LE but not Sonar 4. Is it possible to hook up with Sonar 4?

Sonar 4 will do everything you want it to do, from recording and editing audio to working with midi and softsynths. It has a less steep learning curve than cubase also. You should just set the track, arm it, and hit record. If all else fails take a look in the menu, or post step by step what you're doing if you can't find what you need in the manual and we'll try to help out.

Sonar has been doing both audio and midi for a long time. So yes, it will record and playback audio as well as midi.

I have used Sonar with all differant interfaces with noe trouble at all.

One thing you need to do is make sure you have the correct audio drivers selected in Sonar. They should be an ASIO driver if I'm not mistaken. Then you will need to make sure and arm an audio track to record audio. The record button being grayed out tells me you dont have a track armed to record. The manual and help files will tell you exactly how to go about doing that.

I made sure everything was setup right. I couldn't find the ASIO driver, but I did change the Record Timing Master and Playback Timing Master to TASCAM US-122L. I try to arm the recording (pressing the R on the track) and the main record button is still greyed out. I think the problem is that I'm not able to choose an input. I get a drop-down with "none" and "Tascam us-122L" options but I'm not able to select the Tascam option. Is there something else I'm missing here? Thanks

You need to go in and set the tascam as the control unit via midi maybe?

OK, that sounds like a driver install problem then. You might want to go into the windows control panel and check to see if the unit is showing up there. Then if it is and just wont work. You might have to uninstall the driver and the unit. Then re-install the drivers, with the unit unplugged. Then after the drivers are installed plug the unit in and windows should do a search for the drivers and and install them.

Make sure the I/O of the track you are recording is set correct.
