remixing

ok, wasnt shure where exactly to post this but here i go.. i was wondering about old cd's and masters..ive heard of people doing new mixes of these things and i was wondering how that was possible? i guess what im saying is how could they do this without having a seperate track of guitar, drum mics, and bass?

the people I know order the tracks from the lable... or are hired by the lable. It's starting to become more popular to have remix "contests" where the lable will release the tracks for free but they would basically own the rights to remixes and if they liked your song you'd basically get a distrobution deal because you still own the arrangement...

Obviously major lables are still too freaked out about piracy to do this but christian lables are doing it more often... and the secular industry typically follows their lead.

oh, that would be a pretty cool deal to get a dist deal from that. also, what is the cheapest way to be able to record and remix on the mixer after all has been recorded and re-mix that way?
