Possible to monitor Samplitude via AW16G?

Hi

I plan on getting Samplitude V9. I already have a Yamaha AW16G. One possibility is to
record onto the AW16G and transfer the .wav files to Samplitude.

The AW16G has on optical/toslink (IEC958) digital stereo input. Would it be possible to monitor my Samplitude work/mixes by running a USB or firewire cable from my computer (via corresponding adaptor) to the optical input of the AW16G (and from there to monitors)?

If I can do that, I will not have to buy an additional audio interface!

Well there are several optical interfaces out there that work strictly as an optical interface. They are however about as expensive as some of the two channel audio interfaces that come with optical i/o on them. I believe ESI as well as M-Audio have a simple two channel interface that also have onboard optical i/o on them.

I cant recall the other brands at the moment, but yes they would work as wellbeing just an optical i/o interface for what you want to do.
