Favourite Soundtrack?!

Just wondering what are peoples favourites?

When i say soundtrack i dont mean the compilation of different artists recording but the collection of pieces used throughout the film to set the mood and most films have a tune that come up over and over sometimes in different variations.

Anyway, my number 1 favourite is the soundtrack for Requiem for a Dream. Its performed by clint mansell and there are alot of samples from old orchestrated pieces. This is my favourite because not only is the music extremely enjoyable but its suits the mood of the movie perfectly. When you listen to the soundtrack on cd its gels together so well is almost like one 40 minute piece.... Rant over :)

i gotta go with Vangelis 1492....HUGE choral and string and synth stuff....The Truman Show's piano theme has been a fav. of mine too....Spinal Tap definately takes the cake for comedy....and also Boiler Room on dvd has a comentary by The Angel which is who did the soundtrack...super interesting the way she uses themes and mood. and the king of all kings as far as soundtracks go is Danny Elfman....great style he's got, and i can almost tell everytime i see a new movie if he did the soundtrack.

Hell yeah, I'll second This Is Spinal Tap .

"The mule died, the mule died, the little mule died..."

A close second is The Lost Highway soundtrack... Bowie, Manson, NIN and the like .

I know there aren't many old folkies around here, but the soundtrack from "A Mighty Wind" is just fantastic, if you like that kind of thing. It's actually from many of the same folks that brought us "Spinal Tap", which I will agree is absolutely awesome.

dude, i LOVEd the GD soundtrack, havn't heard it in a few years, but i remember rentin' the movie and thinkin' "this is a flavor of hip-hop that i like"....which led me to lotsa good east coast stuff. that soundtrack alone exposed me to a whole side of rap that i never expected to like.

man...i'm tryin' to remember what the soundtrack to "A Beautiful Mind" sounded like...i know it was a orchestral kinda string theme, but i remember likin' it.

gotta give props to Amadeus, man, it's kidna fun tryin' to think of movies musically.....oh! Crossroads, real cool movie where 'the karate kid' battles the devel (played by steve vai) in a blues guitar showdown, AND he gets laid!

[edit] heck yeah!! ANY TAENINO movie....man that guy has taste!...good call tallchap!

I'd have to say Somewhere In Time. John Barry does nice stuff.

Another of my favs: Heavy Metal. Partly due to the musical content.

Any movie in which Tangerine Dream wrote the soundtrack! They've done over forty and included Sorcerer, Thief, The Keep, Risky Business, Firestarter, Legend, Near Dark, and Miracle Mile.

Hey DungBeatle stole my number one, The Sorcerer of course by Tangerine Dream. I do of course love The Lost Highway sound track as well. Some of my favorites are on there. And indeed, Danny Elfman is as well wonderfull.

But indeed my list of favorites is too large to include them all.

ooh, ooh, pjk...John Barry!
Fantastic. The theme from "The Persueders" is one of my all time faves. Nice. He's a genius.
Actually, isn't he responsible for most of the cool 60' and 70's themes?
