New Cutaways Website!

All right, first a disclaimer. I'm not a web designer. I know nothing about any of those things like CSS, Java, etc., etc., etc.

I used a program called RapidWeaver, which is essentially a website builder for idiots. It's very customizeable, and offers a lot of different themes and such.

Anyway, if anybody would want to take a look at it and let me know what you think, I'd appreciate it. Any suggestions for improvement would be very welcomed. Not that I will necessarily know HOW to make those improvements!! :-) Also, if you see any typos or misspelled words or anything, let me know!

Here's the link:

Thanks!

Nice one, Jim. I love simple websites; I get really pissed when I get welcomed by a flash movie of interminable length, or bombarded with graphics, and it takes forever to find the cleverly disguised link to the page you need....
The KISS method (keep it simple...) gets me every time. Very clean, very nice.

Very Nice Jim.

Clean, to the point, and probably accurate =).

I didn't get any pictures in the photo gallery. But the captions were nice =).

It looks great.

I looked at the source code for the pictures page, both thumbnails and the full size images. They all have the following similar coding:
<img src="files/page2-1000-thumb.jpg"
alt="Dunn County Fair 1- 2006"
width="-2147483648"
height="-2147483648" />

Unless it's something new, I've never seen width/height attributes with negative numbers.

well, look at that...negative pixel sizes...must be some fancy new 4th dimension HTML...

hee hee, that's so they can have smaller picture sizes.

Maybe that's the 'New Math' the kids are learning now-a-days. =)

First off, thanks for the positive comments on the site!

Next...I obviously have no idea what the negative pixel sizes are all about. Clearly something to do with the "Web Site in a Can" system that RapidWeaver uses.

pjk...you don't get any picure in the gallery...that's weird...what OS/Browser are you running? Again, just curious because there's nothing I could do to fix the problem anyway! :-)

Oh yeah, and the "New Math" that kids are learning these days is even MORE confusing than neative pixels!

quite often those WYSIWYG (What Ya See Is What Ya Get) type applications build very sloppy, nasty code, Front Page being a good example. Dreamweaver is better...there are some decent ones, but not many, the ones that make decent code are limited features, the ones with all the bells and whistles make crappy code...or so it seems.

If you want to sometime, Jim, I could install my home-brewed content management system for ya if your host supports PHP and MySQL...then you just set up a template which I could help you with and all the content is easy as heck...it comes with a photo album, events calendar and such things that would be useful to you.

FYI, I can't see images either on XP/FireFox 1.5.0.7

Yep, no images here either and same as dB. XP/Firefox 1.5.0.7

But the site definately looks great. And as stated above, nice and simple to navigate. Glad ya put the music an vids up. I love your versions of Cinnamin Girl and Little Sister.

And ya, check out dB's Curium, it is the easiest thing to use.

Hey Jim

It looks cool my man and a big improvement on the old site for sure.

I didnt spy any typos as such other than this wee bit ye might want to change on the first page:
"Sure...The Cutaways have been know " - change know to known ... sorted.

dB's Curium system will do a job for ya too as well, defo worth a chat to the dB fella...

Again, nice work, very clean looking.

Finally, on the code issue - agree with dB here, the likes of Front PAge, Dreamweaver and all such like - they make one heck of a crappy code behind the scenes for ya...which makes pages slower to load and harder to interpret !

Still...lookin good man. Keep on rockin.

Coco.

This Curium deal sounds pretty good. I may perhaps take you up your offer...thank you very much!

Alright, I think I fixed the no photos problem. I hacked into the code and tweaked the binary settings on the flux capacitor and I ....... Okay, actually I deleted the page and rebuilt it, and now it seems to work in all of my different browsers on both of my computers. We're so old and ugly, though, that the site may have been better without pix!

And thanks, Coco, I fixed the little typo on the front page.

Cheers!

Yep very cool looking site Jim, nice and clean easy to navigate. Photo's are working for me. The nav menu though is hiding part of the pic on the front page, intentional?

I too had to run thru your songs posted again, you Cinnamon Girl cover is great as are the rest, but I really like that one and Rocking in the Free World, the Eagles tune is pretty cool too, ah heck they all Rock Jim!! . :)
