Recording real time midi changes.

Hows it goin? Im trying to record real time midi changes from my Korg MS-2000 onto my Mpc 2000 (i.e. moving the attack time back and forth, changing the release time from longer to shorter, turnin the arpregio off and on, etc)..

It used to work before when it was directly plugged in to my MPC. I had to remove it in order to get my pro-tools connected.

Right now my setup is:
Pro-tools to MPC midi in 1
Roland Fantom out to MPC midi in 2
Roland Fantom in to MPC midi out B
Roland Fantom thru to Korg MS-2000 in.

Would a midi patchbay work to resolve this issue? Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks ahead of time.

i'd just go with a $100 usb midi interface with 4 in and 4 out...my friend has a motu microlite and it works great....this will allow you to connect EVERYTHING to EVERYTHING at the same time...espically if you're usin' midi alot, and have mutiple outboard pieces of gear. definately worth the chingy.... heh thug life baby....i managed to snag a motu midi express 8i/o for a hundred bucks cash used...but on the cheap, just plug the korg directly into the mpc, then hook it back up the way it was when you're finished.

Peter, WYD is pretty well right. You could use a midi patcher as well but the 4 x 4 interface will give you much more versatility. And you can program the interface to act as a patchbay if needed.

Well i do have the Midiman 4x4, the only thing i have running out of that is the out for my pro-tools to my MPC.

How would i go about configuring it as a patch bay in terms of the way im looking for it to work?

Plug the out from my Korg to the in on my Midiman, then go in to OMS setup and play with it in there?

hook your 4x4 to all your outboard gear...ins to outs and outs to ins, then (hopefully) PT's will allow you to route signals within the program, cakewalk and most midi sequencers will do this no prob, but i know PT kinda lacks in the midi department.

Yep, just like WYD stated. You simly need to plug all your ins and outs from your midi gear into the interface and then you can simply assign what goes where in your software. If, that is PT will allow you to route them that way. Which I would hope it does.

You would stillbe able to do all the sequancing in the MPC if you wish. Then simply automate the playback to record into PT. Or do a track dump if the MPC will do that.

You will still have complete individual control of all the midi componants even though they will all be hooked via a central source.
