Welcome To My Nightmare....

So I went to see Alice Cooper last night. This is the second time I've seen him, but the last time was about five years ago.

Unbelievable! The band is very tight, and quite talented, and Alice is...well...he's f***ing Alice Cooper!

All the tricks: The sword with the cash for Billion Dollar Babies; the guillotine; the dancing girls and devils; the crutch on Eighteen; the white top-hat and tails on Schools Out; wheelchair/straight-jacket for Welcome To My Nightmare....etc. No snake, and no baby-on-a-sword (must be mellowing in his old age).

Plenty of songs from Dirty Diamonds, and a couple from Brutal Planet, and lots and lots and lots of 70's stuff. Some nice inclusions were "Is it my body?" and "Only women bleed." Encore included Poison, Under My Wheels. Nice medley of Go To Hell/Black Widow/I love the dead (for a costume change) with the guitar players duelling. Oh, dear...there was a drum solo......(not my cup of tea)....good drummer...but, well, you know...drum solo.....

Anyway, Alice is as good as he ever was. Very theatrical, and wonderful performance. At the end of the show he went around introducing the band (while they were in full swing), and then asked - arms held high and wide, "WHAT'S MY NAME?" - and the crowd, made up of every age group from eight to eighty, told him: ALICE COOPER.
Phenomenal.
If you get a chance to see him, it is so worth it. A piece of Rock'n'Roll history. I was amazed at the different age groups there.

Oh, and the support band was a metal band called Wicked Wisdom and they were rubbish. Jada Pinkett Smith is the singer (yep, Will Smith's wife).

I was lucky enough to have seen him 5 times. And I am also jealous as I missed his show here in June at the Taste of Minnesotta. I heard it was exclelant. I think one of my favorite tunes though is Halo of Flies, Its just the drama of the thing. I think my favorite tour show though was Welcome to my Nightmare with Steve Hunter on guitar and Tony Levin on bass. Hunter was built like a tank and simply dwarfed the guitar. He had a special guitar that was huge and built to look like a machine gun. He was geared up like rambo only bigger and the thing fired balls of flame as he was shooting it during the song Escape I believe.

I think my favorite overall album for listening from start to finish though had to be Love it to Death. Black JuJu was a killer tune to jam with off that album.

Awesome,Talent with visual entertainment,Ive only seen him on tv and its been a long time since Schools Out.I played in the Screaming Lord Sutch band that was fun,he did his first song from inside a coffin, then it was mayhem as he chased people with giant sponge knives/hammers but Alice is the rock godfather, wow.

Alice Cooper (born Vincent Damon Furnier, February 4, 1948) also plays golf. I heard he once bit the head off his driver, then spit it in his caddie's mouth. Ewwww...

He actually never bit the head off the chicken. He simply tossed it into the crowd thinking it could actually fly. Being a city boy he had no idea chickens didnt fly much at all. And when that sucker glided into the audiance, the audiance tore it apart. Later that evening Frank Zappa, who's record label the first two albums were recorded and released by asked him if the rumor was true of him bitting the head off the chicken. Alice of course told Frank exactly what happened. Frank proceded to tell him not to tell the truth and let the rumor be. That in turn started the whole ball rolling and sold tons of records and concert tickets as people came to see the mad man. Soon after he was known as the creater of Shock Rock.

Hujambo, you played with Screaming Lord Sutch? Cool.
Of course, Heavy Friends was awful! But so much fun. Nearly got my vote one election...

Nice one. Good gig.

Yes,it was a strange way of running a band.Whenever Sutch was standing for election in the Monster Raving Loony Party he used to contact players and send one of his tapes.I roped in drums n bass then he would turn up with some very enthusiastic backing vocal girls. The songs were mainly rock n roll but there was always one or two not on the tape we had to busk.He used to put in that much effort on gigs that clouds of steam came off him after.

I just found out Alice will be coming to Detroit tomorrow . I've never seen his live show, but Welcome To My Nightmare was the very first album I ever purchased... I think I was about seven or eight at the time . Lately I've been listening to his radio show, and I must say, it kind'a remindes me of the way disk-jockies used to be . The guy knows just about everybody in the industry and some of the stories he has to tell reguarding studio mishaps, premaddonna artists, and general rock and roll mayhem are really interresting, if not flat out hilarious .

Maybe I'll go see him if I can get out of work early enough .

Alice is "entertainer extraordinaire". I've seen him twice. I would've seen him 3 times but he fell off the stage and broke his neck (can't remember if he broke it for sure but...) in the show before I was to see him. I believe it was the "Trash" and "Raise your fist and yell" tours that I saw.

Favorite concert moments: Ballad of Dwight Fry and Gutter Cats vs. the Jets.

Actually his DVD concert of "Trash" is awesome buy for any AC fan.

Don't want to spoil the 'surprise' for you Hue, (oh, and go!!!) but there's a hilarious part during "Sunset Babies (all got rabies)" where his dancing girl comes out dressed as Paris Hilton (see other threads on HRC for stuff on her...), replete with a little dog in a little bag....awwww...
She leans down to kiss the little doggie...awwww
And it rips her face off!
Fantastic.

Then Alice minces about the stage mimicking the paris walk, picks up the offending puppy, wrings it's little neck (oh, come on, don't call PETA, it's a stuffed toy), and throws it across the stage.

OH ya, when I'm not mixing and just veggin his radio show is playing in here via a southern radio station over the net. I love the internet. But indeed, he is what radio used to be. One night he was into playing long songs. And about 11:30 he beefed about no one asking to here the longest tune of them all, Inagadadavida. So I immediately hit the email button and ripped him for just plain not doing it. Needless to say I got an emailin return within about 3 minutes. He apparently found absolute humor in me terrorizing him, and musta figured out I was playing since I refered to severaal things related to his live shows back in the 70's. So he gave me 5 minutes to gather those who I wanted to have hear him rip into me on the radio. At that time it was only the kids and a couple of friends. But he refered to me as a long lost pal from the 70's, which is kind of true as I met him 4 times in my lifetime, which of course he didn't remember me, but the event was a recolection for him. So needless to say I was a hit with the kids for that breif moment.

I have a lot of respect for guys like him in the end.

What a cool story Noize !

I managed to find a way out of here an hour before the show starts, so it's going to be a tight-squeeze getting down there for the Hello Hooray bit, but at least I'll have a good reason to drive fast . Should be swell, I'll post some highlights tomorrow .

Ya, what suprised me was the fact it was a live show. I would have thought he just did the old tape it and run thing. But it appears from his telephone and email stuff that it is indeed live. I suppose he is a friggin night owl like me.

Glad your going to be able to see it. I wish I would have had the time.

WOW, what an awesome show ! It went pretty much as TallChap said it would, with the added element that it was happening in his home town . The crowd was huge, very well behaved, and way-friendly... singin' along with every word . I was feeling pretty good about the way things went so I went home and called WYD, sat at my kitchen table and pounded what ?... you guessed it CHERRY BOMBS ! Yeaaaaah !!! I managed to get about eleven of them things down . They're just too damn good ! Needless to say, I'm a-lookin' and fellin' my best today . Hell yeah .

COOP ! COOP ! COOP ! COOP ! COOP ! COOP !

Is this what rock'n'roll shows should be?
Hell yeah.

I'd love to see him on his home turf.

GI think it's a great young band he has there.

Oh yeah, the two guitarists he was using had the best live guitar sound I've heard in years !

Oh ya, he has always had the best guitarists in his shows. The current are Keri Kelli who is absolutely phenominal and can play in just about any band in any style without missing a beat. I am sure that is why Cooper has him in the line up as he is one of the best hired guns around these days. And Damon Johnson is not bad either and compliments Keri very well.

Glad ya had a good time.
