Ok so I am thinking of trading in a unused keyboard for an adat at music go round, since they're selling it for cheap. My main questions are do I just plug the mixer into the adat and track, and can I just use regular videotape or will i need to get special tape

Aug 08, 2006 09:09 pm they work like cassette recorders... so a lot would depend on which one it is... and it would take dat tapes... should still be able to buy them at music stores... not sure if you have to worry about mixing brands like with miniDV...

Aug 08, 2006 09:15 pm What model and year is it Loki, before you run out and grab it? Some of them had some major issues with the heads going way out. And they cost a fortune to get repaired.

Aug 08, 2006 11:58 pm that I don't know, but it's an alesis. I'll check it out more tommorow when I take the equipment in, because regardless I'm gonna get rid of this synth since i never use it anymore.

Aug 09, 2006 12:57 am it's an alesis adat lx20
Aug 09, 2006 09:58 am those are only 20 bit, if you've got a computer, i'd use it instead...we've got three of those out here, and in one year, i've never turned them on....you can use them for their A/D converters, if your card has an ADAT input, so that'd give you 8 more in's...otherwise, i wouldn't waste the cash.

Aug 09, 2006 03:38 pm well the computer would still be my main system, I was just thinking of getting it to use as a mobile recording setup.

Aug 09, 2006 05:35 pm Yes, as WYD stated they are an odd bird. Using it you will find that you will be doing a lot of converting of audio to import into the PC for mix down. They were a very short lived unit as 24 bit recorders hit the market weeks after the LS20 was released. And no one wanted them anymore as they were expensive as all get out. And expensive to upkeep as well.

Aug 09, 2006 05:57 pm yeah I get that. hmmm I dunno, it's cheaper than a laptop, and I wanna be able to record my friends playing live and stuff... so i dunno now. If it's just gonna be a waste of money I won't do it. And that's pretty much what I'm getting from you guys.

Aug 09, 2006 09:57 pm If the unit is in pristine condition and very cheap it might be a good piece of kit for partability but as I said earlier, they were very prone to faulting out. And you will be spending a lot of time converting sample rates and such.
