I have 2 things to decide about. First, is the jumper settings on my soundcard i dont no wether to leave them as default or to change them.

Second, i dont no if its better to hook my mixer up to my soundcard or just run everything straight out my soundcard, like the mic, and not use the mixer at all.

If i do use the mixer i do not no how i would plug it up to the soundcard since all the plugs are RCA.

What mixer, and what sound card? A model number will really help answer your questons.

Well does the 1010lt have XLR hook up for the mic? As well is there an onborad pre amp? If so then yes you can go straight into the 1010. If not then you will need to go through the mixer to use its mic pre amp.

As for the jumpers, I dont know what they do so if you could enlighten me then I can try and help you.

I think they're the consumer/pro settings: -10db, 0, +4db, something like that. I never switched them when I was using mine. All seemed to work out fine. Depends on what other gear you're working with.

When I was using my 1010lt, I would plug 2 mics straight into the mic preamps (xlr inputs) on the 1010lt card. Then I would use my mixer for the other 6 analog inputs on the 1010lt.

I would plug mics into mixer channels 3 - 8, then connect a cable from the 1/4" channel insert (only to first click) to the RCA input on the 1010lt. You'll need a cable with 1/4" TS phono jack on one end, and RCA jack on the other end. Hosa makes nifty cables for just the thing, they're 8 channel snakes, 1/4" to RCA, with different colors on each connection, so you don't get mixed up.

Oh yeah, the inputs (3 - 8) on the 1010lt need a preamp of some sort, that's why I used the mixer, multiple built-in preamps.

I would also plug the outputs pair (1/2) back into stereo input 15/16 on my board, then monitor from the mixer, not the soundcard. This lets you change monitor volumes easily, but not affect the incoming signal from the mixer's channel inserts.

You can use the last 2 cables in the Hosa snake, if they reach the stereo inputs, mine did.

Worked a treat.

The jumpers are used to control the line levelfor the soundcards analog inputs 1 & 2 witch is the mic xlr jacks. Two basic settings are possible, one for a microphone line level compatible with low impedance dynamic microphones (those that do not require phantom power, such as condensor mics) and the other is an operating line level of +4dBu (typical for balanced line levels). The default settings when u recieve your card is set to the microphone line level setting. If u wish to use either or both inputs as +4dBu line level input, then u will need to change the jumpers. <-----that is what it says in the manual.

But i dont get it. If someone can break it down for me. I will be using a MXL 990 microphone its a condensor.

Then you need to set your jumpers to allow phantom power and the +4dBu level input. That'll get it for you.
