Hi,
I have a Juli@ sound card. I want to purchase a condenser mic. Will I be able to use it to record onto my pc? ie, does the Juli@ sound card have a preamp already, or do I have to buy one externally? I'm not familiar at all with this kind of setup (I normally just listen to music), so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Jul 08, 2006 03:45 am From what I read, it seems similar to my card in function which does not have pre's.

Thanks for the reply. This may be the wrong place to ask, but regarding the classic Shure SM57.. being a dynamic mic, can I plug it into my pc, without a preamp? And if I talk _directly_ into it (as if I was dictating/making a vocal memo to myself), will the quality be any different than if I had a great preamp to boost the signal? Again, any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

Jul 08, 2006 11:54 pm Hey fishkill, welcome to HRC.
Well to be honest There arent really any mics that will work without some sort of pre amp. And they really dont need to be a ultra high quality to start with.
If you have a small mixer you can plug into that as it will probably have a pre amp channel on it.
But pluggin directly into a line input with a mic will nto work real well as you wont get much of a signal at all.
