Could leaving your monitors on too long damage them?

I generally don't turn my off and have music coming through them all day, but today they started to sound, well weird... Like songs that shouldn't have reverb on it did at certain points, and I had to cranks them up even louder then normal to get a good level out of them. I hope I didn't bust em

if you use them that much perhaps the speakers are just simply wearing out...

suck, I don't have the money to replace em and listening through anything else is just lame now. That's what I get for getting the cheap ones I guess.

ha! i know what ya mean, when i started listenin' to my monitors daily and got used to 'em....consumer speakers just didn't sound good anymore, i'd be pickin' out the bass boost, and crap like that. if i have my way....i'm gonna have nothin' but monitors for my home, i don't care how 'dry' they sound, i still prefer it to 'good' soundin' speakers.

that really sucks about yours loki, does it get worse when you turn up the volume more? have you tried hookin' 'em up to some other source to see if the problem still persists?

well I noticed that they were sounding weird on a website I was on but figured it was just the site, then I looked to see if the left cone was moving and it wasn't... and I also noticed that the signal was very low, so I went into winamp and played some bauhaus and dream theater stuff I know really well, and it just didn't sound right... I turned them off and am going to let em cool down for a while and see if that yeilds and results. I've never really driven em very hard, like no outrageous levels or anything, just on and pushing air about 24-7 for a couple of years.

ahhhh Figured out the problem. Rats. Chewing through the cable from the PC to the breakout box. Lovely... Some electrical tape fixed it though.

perhaps have a shop look at 'em, maybe they just need to be reconed or something...

oh, in that case, never mind my reconing solution :-)

Invest in rat traps instead.

yep, just started tearing the room apart to find out where the hole they're coming in from is. That's the problem with floods in this city, all kinds of little critters.

I got an off topic question though and don't wanna start a new thread cause I don't expect this should take more than a couple posts to clearify. I have a set of speaker stands that I borrowed from my uncle that support my Sony stereo speakers. On one of them the little foam triangle thing that raises the speaker off the metal base of the stand is missing. Anyone know where I can get a replacement for cheap?

I would suggest tearing the other one off and buying a new set of speaker iso pads from auralex or something...unless you know the manufatcurer of the stands you have, if so, get a hold of them directly.

well they are just tiny little triangles, not whole pads.. I don't personally care, it's just that they aren't mine and I don't know whether or not that one thing was missing when I got em or not. Ah well I'll figure something out.
