Hi gang,

I just recently got a corrupted profile and have had to rebilud another, while reinstalling the drivers for my soundcard. (among everything else) Everything seems ok I can get signals in each track display when I trigger the midi sounds via keyboard, but I am getting no sound. (Cubase SE)When I open Reason I have no problems and can trigger and hear sounds perfectly.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to get things back to normal again?

a million thanks
Marcus

check in your 'audio divices' menu at the top....you have to manually right click an input and tell the program to 'see' each input and output (seperate tabs) save the profile so you don't hafta do it everytime.

I've been trying to fiddle around with some of the settings.. I have a Uno Midisport for the USB interface, I'm also tring to use an ASIO4ALL driver because of the conflicting sample rates. To be honest, I'm really not quite sure how I got this all working before.. but I know it did.

Oddly enough, there were a few things that were mysteriously fixed in the rebuilding and transfer of profiles. If I could just figure out why I am getting midi sounds from Reason and not FL6 or Cubase (and I can play songs in FL but not in Cubase, plus I can hear my mic though the headphones coming going into and coming out of the sound card but not even seeing signal in the audio tracks) Just a big mess. Maybe there is something muted somewhere...

yeah, it sounds like cubase isn't configured to recognize your hardware....open cubase and go to the audio devices menu....you gotta setup EVERY input and output one at a time. just right click on the 'spreadsheet' thing that opens up and select one input at a time. then SAVE THE PROFILE so you don't hafta do it again.

yeah, it looks like al the hardware is recognized. it loads up and apears in all the dropdowns for instruments and profiles. In fact, when I hit the keyboard, the signal shows up in the track display so it is getting something. I also can see all the signal lights moving if I load and play a current song.. just no volume.

I have noticed that the Volume Control icon in the system tray has a red x in it, as if it is muted. However, when I open the control, the main volume slider is muted and Aux 2 is muted.. automatically. When I un-mute them though... still nothing. I wonder if this may mean there is some sort of conflict that has arisen which may be causing the obvious feed, but lack of sound.

check in your volume control, goto options > playback and make sure NOTHING is muted....this could be where the problem is....

also make sure to doubble check your audio devices in cubase and choose OUTPUTS aswell as inputs, these are in two different menus.

Well it has to be a setting or driver not picked properly in cubase. But what is odd is the Xed out icon for your audio card.

Do you have multiple soundcards, like an onboard and another audio interface?

hi Noize, long time no talk. Unfortunatley I have had to work a "real job" these last few months and have had practically no real time for studio stuff. (save the occasional 2am inspiration session) :)

Then .. this happens.

Ok.. audio card icon mysteriously not xed out anymore.. still no sound from cubase though. I can see all the signal feeds move up and down with each track on saved songs.. just no sound. I also cannot see the signal when I speak into the mic, thougj I can hear myself in the mic though the headphones that are going into and coming out of the sound card.

Your question.. There is something called Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio, that I am assuming is some kind of built in thing? Then I still have the Creative Audigy 2 interface that is PCI/Hardware with I/Os installed in the front of the CPU.

Maybe they are conflicting?

Just found a very interesting thing, actually two.

1. I just opened FL6 and now I can hear myself through the mic (of which I have a little volume on the pre-amp) clicking the keyboard and talking, but with an effect echo of some kind. Though I don't know where it's coming from because FL loaded dry. Also I can usually turn off the mic sound by clicking the line in/mic2 fader mute button on the source side of my Volume control. But now I have to click the master control mute button to stop the sound. AND if I change the Rec fader section to "what you hear" this noise starts low but then builds until it sounds like it's going to blow up.

2. AND THE MOST INTERESTING, When I open my ASIO4ALL off line settings, under Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM) tab, it drops down to SB Audigy 2 Audio [880], under that is drops down to In 2x8-192kHz, 32Bits and Out 8x4-192kHz,32Bits, BUT the In has a red x in front of it which the says that means it's unavailable. ??

Now the red x on the In tab is mysteriously gone. Weird how this stuff is going on and off. I probably need to disable the on-board sound card in the BOIS setting.. but I can't seem to find it when I F1 the boot up.

Marcus, try going into the windows sound settings and locating the onboard sound and just uncheck all the boxes for it. Then see if the SB card is listed in there. Make sure to dissable the What you hear in the recording preferances there. Then check and make sure it is set to record only the line in. Then check your playback preferances there as well.

Windows has a nasty habit of messing about with SB card preferances. I dont fully know why, but I keep one in my old PC just for experimenting now and testing drivers. But I know XP has done some odd things with it.

I'm using Win2k NT. Don't ask my why. With all the work i've been doing lately, you'd think i could find a way to buy a new SC. Jeesh!

I'm looking into getting a Firewire 410 soon, I think that will solve alot of my problems.

Following your advice now.
