It really is not going to make the biggest difference. There isnt a very big range to choose from either. Usually you can buy XLR cables for 15-20 bucks or make the jump to monster cables which cost much more. I would say just go to a local music store or even radioshack and their standard brand (usually around $20) will do just fine...or you could just use your existing cable if you wish.

Yep, I'd agree, if you're not using 3000$ mics, and 3000$ preamps, then I don't think you'll hear the difference between a standard xlr cable, and one costing 200$.

Though, some very cheap cables may be very prone to crackles, and interference, due to poor shielding. If your existing cable is working alright for other work, then it'll be fine for the condensor mic.

Pop filter, is what you're thinking of, though it functions as a spit gaurd as well. ;)

I've been buying Horizon cable, which is pretty cheap and I haven't had any problems with it. The connectors are good quality and you won't break the bank on it.

I find that XLR cables at music stores are way overpriced, at least around here and in a few other cities. Its one of those items that they can gauge people over because they come in desperately needing a mic cable and most people will pay more just to walk home with one immediately.

I paid like $18 for a ProCo 6' XLR cable locally, which I was pissed about. Since then I've bought 2 20' Horizons online for $15 each. given, the Proco is much better cable but I can't tell the difference in my application.
