I found a review (Harmony Central) of the Behringer B2 pro that suggests one buy mics in pairs. Is this similar to matching audio tubes? What is the rational?
I am about to purchase a (or paired possibly) condensor mic for male vocal/my use primarily. I have been borrowing a B2pro for some time and like it very much.. maybe I should spend my alotted $300 on this one I know... or something "better", which may just be name recognition as far as I know. I am interested in the AKG Perception400, or the Rode NT1000. Thoughts? Is it just name vs similar quality?

If you are only going to use it to record mono type tracks such as a vocal, then there really isnt a need for a matched pair. The use of a pair is really only going to happen when recording in stereo, like for drum overheads of out front of a live performance.

I see.. makes sense.
Yes this will for the foreseeable future be a vocal mic. Since posting last I have heard great things about Audio Technica4040, and Studio Projects C1... so it goes.. more choices.
Well, if anyone has experience with the B2pro and some of the these slightly more expensive mics, I would be interested to hear comparisons.

Well, the 4040 is a good all around mic choice. I use a couple differant AT mic's and like them a good deal. My favorite at the moment is the 3035.

I've never used the B2 or the 4040, but i do have a Rode NT1000 and i love it. bought one, and ended up buying a second one haha. They work great for vocals, and good for a room mic for an amp. they sound good on my vioce (im a dude)

my two cents

dude i've been rockin' the AT's as well, we've got two modles (i think 4040, and the one that's multi-patterned)...it's definately my go to mic of the LDC 's...and yeah if you're not miking instruments, you'll be fine.

generally, my order of mic importance, is
two 57's, one LCD, pair of SDC's, one LDD, then more LDC's and ribbons. my next mic i get is prolly gonna be a ribbon, cuz now i'm needing more colors to work with.

Okay, I invested in a mic. I compared AT4040 and AT3035 and GrooveTubes GT55. I asked the "salesdude" to let me lay down a track of each on their recording software/computer setup. This was pretty cool. I was able to go back and compare these mics to each other..then hurried home to check online reviews which were positive. I ended up getting the GrooveTubes GT55 as it seemed a bit warmer (in agreement with most reviews I found) than the two AT's I tried. Since my other mic (my friend is selling me the B2pro I've been borrowing) is more airy, I decided to go with something a tad darker/warmer. The GT55 was $199.
I'll let you know how it works out as I start getting some real time with it.
