hey guys, ive seen some decent firewire sound interfaces these days, but my board doesnt have firewire built in, its a 939 socket gigabyte, a budget board...so i was wondering would a firewire sound interface work good on a 1394 pci card?

IEEE 1394 refers to the data transfer rate (I believe) and Firewire is a brand name. There are other manufacturers such as iLink that use the 1394 protocol. At least that is my understanding.

One thing you will want to remember though is that using a PCI card to plug the firewire interface in will limit the firewire speed to the PCI buss speed. So it will not run as efficiantly as it would on a dedicated firewire port built into a motherboard.

No, it is just an extra feed thru as they are wired to be on in the same. It allows you to connect another device in the chain if you wish. I think they are also capable of connecting to another HD recorder or something of that nature.
