Midi through USB?

Hello,

Another newbie question here...

My computer came with a basic Soundblaster Audigy 2 (Windows, games...) and I recently add in a Delta 44 card for good inexpensive recording capability (with its 4 1/4 in/out) 24/96 for guitar and bass through my POD 2.

My question is:
If I plan to buy a small keyboard to trig some midi (vsampler based for instance) and plug it in the computer, will a midi in/out --> USB adapter cable be a good reliable solution or should I buy another sound card with midi in/out capability?
I read somewhere that USB could introduce latency or software compatibility issues.

Regards

yeah, if you're only use one external midi divice (although your pod might benifit if it's got midi i/o) then those adaptor's are generly ok, midi is very simple data that dosn't require alotta bandwidth...a more 'direct' way would be the 'ole midi i/o to serial (game controler) port....i used one of those for about 3 years.

if you're gonna have mutiple midi devices i'd look into a 4 i/o usb box, motu makes a nice one, i think it's called 'midi express'...er is that what i use?....anywho, ya get my point

i would think usb and midi latency issues wouldn't be too bad.

I use a USB midi interface and have for years. No problems with latency at all. Latence is directly related to the sound card and the PC itself, not the midi interface. Although mine is a high end multi port unit any of the low end usb midi i/o units will work just fine for you.
