Hello
I am setting up a home studio i am going to use the M-Audio 1814, and ableton live. I have got drum mics which I am going to connect upto my mixer (6ch) which i will connect up to the M-Audio. I will connect the guitar and bass and mics straight into the M-Audio. Is this set up any good, can I improve this set up it is to record mostly bands, also when I record the drum do I put them in a seperate room or in the same room, so it does not interfere with the vocal mic?
Thank YOU

sounds like it'll work. You may want to record vocals on their own take. Leave the singer to just fill in without a mic, like a guide for the players.

Then have the vocalist lay down their track on their own, later.

Also, yes, the drums would be totally in the vocalist mic if you tracked vocals with the band. The only live mics in the room with drums should be drum mics.

You could always put the vocalist in a different room, but if you're going to do that, just track the vocals separate.

The guitar and bass will want some type of preamp, or processor before the 1814, to bring their signal up to line level.

Welcome to HRC.

Well it is not a good idea at all to be recording the drums and vocals at the same time. Or anything else at the same time. You will have sounds bleeding into other microphones and it will be hard to monitor. The drums being in a seperate room from the mixing room would be ideal for monitoring properly. Any problems you hear will be through your headphones only and will not be mixing with the live sound in the same room. As far as your setup with the equipment you have, it looks good to me, you should be all set.

Are you recording the guitar and bass direct? That will work if that is what you are doing. As well with proper mics and and cabinet set up recording them all at once can work fine. If you are set up correctly that is.
