A couple questions about Sonar 5

So I've decided to go ahead and bump up to Sonar 5...but I have a couple questions.

I'm looking at the differences between Sonar 5 SE and Sonar 5 PE, and while they list them on the website, they don't mean much to me just sitting there in text version. What exactly does the extra $200 for PE get me? I don't do a huge amount of intricate stuff with my recordings. Let's put it this way...I've been using Cool Edit Pro for the last 6 years and it's pretty much met most of my needs. So I'm just curious if the SE is going to be adequate, or if PE has some sort of absolutely necessary feature that I'm not seeing.

Also, I've seen mention of Sonar not having the greatest wave editor...and I've noticed that a lot of peeps who have Sonar also have Wavelab or SoundForge or something like that. Am I going to need to get a dedicated wave editor like those, or will I be okay just using Adobe Audition?

Thanks.

The main differences, as I recall, is that PE has loads and loads of synths and plugins that SE doesn't, and PE can mix in surround sound, and SE can't.

Okay dB...thanks. The Surround Sound thing doesn't bother me at all (I don't even have surround sound on my home stereo system).

I wonder how crucial these plug-ins are, though?

The plugins are what sold me on it . I still have yet to scratch the surface on the synths, as well as the video feature .

yeah PE, to me, is definately worth the extra $$....the plugs are all i thought the difference was, i figured they're the same engine and featureset. i'm gonna upgrade when i get a new computer here shortly, can't wait!

I think there's some sort of voice processing thing with PE. One article I read states that this addition is worth the extra itself.

Okay...you guys have mostly sold me on PE...just for the plugins. :)

What about the wave editing thing? Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Thanks!

Rolands V-Vocal . Amazing .

Goldwave is an editor, that I've been considering for a while now . I've tried the demo version, and found it quite feature-laden . heh I can't, in my mind, justify getting it before Harbal, though .

Thermocaster, yes, it is V-Vocal that is the major differance in PE. And yes, it is worth the differance in price. It is basically like have an Antares auto tune and a harmonizer all in one shot.

And the Surround plugs are the other differance. But the wave editing is not as bad as some would make it out to be. I frequantly get involved in sound design and sample creation, so for me Sound Forge is an almost must have tool. But I can create very well in Sonars loop editer without much hassle. And youcan now actually edit the wave form right in the track view in Sonar. So it has come a long way since the cumbersome days of actually needing an external editer.
