the lego movie kicks butt...excellent work, must have been very tedious work, but the result is a riot...very impressive indeed.

I pay you my highest compliments.

Well, thank you very much. Yes it was tedious (and still is) Yes it is time consuming. But it is an excuse for a 32 year old man to play with legos.
here's how i did it cause i know folks will ask.
kodak run of the mill digital camera.
windows movie maker-comes in ME and 2000 and xp
photo shop
any wav recorder.

i build the set -as you can see i spared no expense on the 3 pieces of wood and spray-painted card board.

put the little dudes down- take a picture
move them a little, take a picture, repeat for hours.

download pictures to computer. open up photo shop. paint each picture for mouths and or lasers and such.

then i record the dialog. most of the voices are mine except the girls-my wife is the english one (her accent is real by the way-mine are not.) leah is my neighbors wife. and han solo is my neighbor. I am really proud to be yoda hmmmm.

then in movie maker-
i then insert the wave files, and put in pictures to fill the time that the conversations take.
when im done ill fill the sound out with music in the back ground. thats the first 7.5 scenes, ive written 16 scenes for the movie. should be about a half hour long when im done.

for the fly bys i record .qt movie files then convert them to mpgs and add sound effects.

its a fairly simple process- and its alot of fun. if anyone wants to try it ive got alot of little pointers to save you some time- ya know learning the hard way. besides you folks have helped me out with music. its a fair trade.

one thing though-I'd like to get feed back on the M U S I C too! hahahahaha
thanks again!

eh, Music Schmusic, the movie rocked!

I have a 4 1/2 year old so I get top play with Legos every day! It's great, legos are a blast, I still have my huge collection from when I was a kid and my duaghter loves them, and when she outgrows them I have a 1 1/2 year old coming up the ranks :-)

Ya know, when the wife approves a purchase for you, Sonic Foundry Vegas Video sound like the perfect tool for you. It's what I use (I do some video work as well) It is a video editor with effects and transitions and stuff PLUS a great multitrack editor. Might be something to think about for the future.

like $299 or so.

The other option is Sonic Foundry Acid which has a kickin proice at Musician's Friend right now of $149 along with a couple other great apps.

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

Acid is very similar to Vegas, and currently has more features as the new Vegas is currently under development. AAcid will even let you mix in 5.1 surround. :-)

Dude, a buddy of mine who is really into the "indie film" thing locally saw your movie (cuz I told him to watch it) and said you should really clean up the compression a little bit and submit it to atomfilms.com or ifilmscom.

he really dug, and he does and has seen a ton of things like this...

compression is something in the bigger apps, it encoding quality/size tradeoffs and which type of codec you choose to compress it with, pretty advanced stuff.. My friend is gonna crap his pants when I tell him you did it in Movie Maker :-)

Movie Maker must have some form of encoding features to choose the screen size/quality and such for saving the film.

And don't call me Shirly :-)

ya, i choose best quality, average quality in the pictures. this thing just sorta started itself i didnt plan it. I didnt even know movie maker was on my machine. i saw a lego catalog that had the Movie sets thing with the little camera and was quite intrigued. (spelling bad) i figured out i had everything i needed in theory to make a lego movie so i did. I had no idea about how to shoot it or film a conversation or anything. it was all an accident. now though maybe ill get off my duff and do a scene this weekend. ill leave the first part alone, and try to impove the second part. hmmmm, encoding quality compression is.
