Line output on a guitar?

Hello,

Just bought the PreSonus Firebox and was wondering... the manual says that some "active" instruments have a preamp built-in, and actually output a line level signal, which shouldn't be used with the preamps on the front of the unit.

Both my bass and guitar have active pickups, but I doubt they put out line level signal. I'm thinking that they're talking about acoustic guitars, which have an actual EQ adjustment and all, but I am not sure.

Can anyone shed some light on this situation?

Active pickups send a boosted signal, they are their own preamp...but honestly, I can't say as though I have ever equated that to a true line level signal, I have still always run my active instruments thru the same signal chain that I have any other instrument...but hey, give it a try, it might work.

Yeah, I'd rather run mine thru the pre-amps on the front of the unit because I need all the IO I can get, I'm just hoping its not going to make the sound crappy.

No harm in trying...
