Hey guys,

I've got this old Foster DF 12 dynamic that looks like a 57. inside the capsule looks ok but the jack had broken. I re-soldered it but it still doesnt work. Can anybody point me to a web page that could help me.

Faith bredren,

Flashy

hmmm i was gonna be a smart-arse and point you to a site that has a new one for sale, but i cannot find ANYTHING about this mic, are you sure that's the right model number? and i even tried fostex instead of foster....

anyway, i know absolutely nothing about mic repair, and if it's a 57 knock off, i'd just replace it with a 57.

its a bit of a mystery aint it. def a Foster DF12 says it's made in Japan. Just got a new 57 for £55 delivered from e-bay but thought I'd try and get this little badger working.

Flashy, when the jack broke it is possible that it may have shorted out and damaged the capsule. You probably wouldn't see the damage at all.

You could check the capsule for signal. Though if it's old, the coil may be corroded, and not moving anymore. You could replace the capsule, but then you're looking at probably more $$$ and time than it's worth.

Yep, you could do as pjk suggested. IF you can remove the entire lot of electronics from the unit and have a look see if anything else might be bunk in there.

Otherwise, indeed it might be time for it to make its way to the great gig in the sky.
