Hi,

I am nre to the recording and I am setting up a basic studio at home. I just bought a Macbook Pro and now I am looking at an audio interface. I am on a limited budget (around 400$ USD) for the interface and I am contempling a few possibilities. What I need is to have at least 2 audio input with XLR plugs (more would be great, but I'd rather have less ins but more quality). I will mostly record audio (vocal, guitar and bass) with drums in midi and (sometimes) some midi for piano or other instrument fills. So far I am looking at:

-Digidesign Mbox2
-M-audio firewire 410
-Presonus firebox
-Alesis Multimix 8

I'd like to have your opinions.
At the same time, I'd like to hear about sequencers, as it might have an impact on my choice of interface. The Mbox come with pro tools LE, some others come with Sonar LE. My question was are those light version complete enough to do something decent? I was thinking maybe I could for now use garageband2 and later (when I have more money) move to logic express or logic pro to have more feature. What do you think?

Thank you very much for your precious help

Welcome to HRC!

All your choices are decent, another one to look at is Mackie Spike www.homerecordingconnecti...erface+with+DSP it comes with Tracktion a very easy to use, high sound quality tracking and mixing app. I got to play with the latest version, you can read the review/comments at www.homerecordingconnecti...tory&id=607

it would be a device worth looking at, and a very decent price too.

I am just back from a music store when I went to have more info on the units I mentionned above + the spike + the toneport from line6. Among those units, the salesman was recommanding me the presonus firebox. He told me that among those units, it was the better for the price. I think I also like the fact that it got Cubase LE bundled with it. However, I think I'm gonna have to wait cause I am not sure there are drivers available yet for the intel-mac.
What do you think?
BTW, does anyone of you know exactly the difference between Cubase LE and Cubase SE?
Thanks
