Panning in Sonar

Hi all,

I'm using a flange effect thru a send on a track in Sonar 3 and am trying to pan the effect from hard left to hard right. (similar to the effect after the guitar solo in Winter's Frankenstein)

Does anyone know how to do this or where to look for this in the manual?

Can this be done without a surface control?

Also, if I recorded a track thru left instead of stereo, can I make that track stereo after the fact?

Yes it is a legit copy of sw so please no RTFM remarks. ;)

Any help is much appreciated as I am stumped!

I don't think I fully understand the question, as the logical answer to me is to tell you to turn the pan pot.

RTFM... ;-)

Read up on "automation", Sonar can automate pans back and forth but it would be easier to read the manual than for me to try and explain it when the app is not in front of me.

Loki, true but I want it to be automatic like say at time interval A start panning from left to right and end hard right at interval B

cool, thanks for the tip db! I'll take a look under automation and see what I can find.

no, I don't have the manual in front of me cuz I'm still at work :(

I've never actually done anything with that feature.

Just recently started using sends in the past few months for my track effects but this is something I've wanted to do for a while and didn't know where to start.

right click the track in edit view, and click on create automation....bam it's that easy...just right click on the red line (pan) to create a 'node' then make another and move 'em around....you'll get the hang of it after that.

jackson, it is under automation in the manual indeed. It is also under panning/automating as well. IT is very easy to draw in the automation as well.

jackson, I'll give ya a quick tutorial on it.

Right click on your audio track you want to pan. This will open a context menu, put your curser over envelope, then over Create Track Envelope and finally choose Pan.

This will add a line through the entire audio part you want to pan. Next right click exactly where you want to add a node (button) to move up or down to pan left or right. You will start out with a node at the beggining of the clip and then add nodes wherever you want to be able to pull it left or right. In Sonar 3 the automation drawing was still a little simple compared to what we can do now in Sonar 5 PE, but it still works great.

If you need more help from here let me know and I try and catch up with the post and fill ya in.

you guys rock! thanks, Not to get off topic but speaking of AMD vs. Intel. I just finally put together my new AMD Dual Core 4200+ this weekend and got Sonar installed on my 10,000RPM WD SATA drive. This thing smokes my 2.8gHz Wintel.

Can't wait to test it out along with the panning technique.

thanks again :)
