i'm thinkin' about selling/trading my Pedully Pentabuzz, for something that dosn't have that darn paint+clear coat on the neck....the squeeks suck and i much prefer the feel of an unfinished neck...here's the thing, me and mom have been searching ALOT of bass companies websites and i have yet to find one that meets my needs...all i ask is for a satin oil finish (or even none!) 5 strings, and it's GOTTA be fretless. am i beein' too pickey? i'd think for sure, most major companies would have a higher end model that fits the bill...last year we had a Court that was a 4 string and i fell in love with it, turns out they don't make that model (Artisan) in a 5 string!! aarg!! warwick, carvin, dean....i found a warrior but it had a 5,000 dollar price tag...i'm needin' it to be under 1,500 bucks or so...any ideas? i could sand down my neck on the Pedulla but that would kill the resale value...bah

thanks

Have you checked out Music Man basses? Their Stingrays get a pretty good rap. Their necks are hand-rubbed oil/wax...no paint or clear coat.

Try Carvin. They'll make just about anything for you, and their prices are good. Problem is that they are mail-order only, so no trying it out first. Also, try Warmoth. You could put together a nice bass for under a grand, with any, and all the features you require. That's if you are okay with building it yourself. Their necks are great.
My neck (Warmoth)is coated with a "food-grade" shellac finish (sprayed by Phil Kubicki). Nice finish, but then I've never had a problem with finished necks.
Music-Man, as Tadpui recommended, are very cool, but if you've been playing a Pedulla the sound might not be what you're looking for (I think they are a bit of a one trick pony - kinda like Rickies).
If you can get your hands on a Carvin, I think you might be surprised at how well they play, and sound.
Some Schecters have a satin finish neck (my guitar does). You might be in need of a pickup swap, but Schecter are relatively inexpensive, but good quality. The pickups aren't great....
You'll blow your budget, but Alembic also have some stunners with a satin neck finish.

How about a Warwick ?

I really like Warwick basses, they sound great and they're not too pricey .

You could stow-away on the DBD bus this weekend, and pick it up from Elderly Instruments in Lansing before they leave ! : p

DO IT ! lol

I was being serious about the Warwick, though . If I recall correctly, we listend to one in your studio that I had recorded a while back, and you commented on the tone .(Remember ?... the "80s-cheese song") That particular model was pretty far from what you're looking for, though... it was a 4-string Corvette, which was fretted . Beautiful instrument, though !

I'm deffinately going to the show . I can't believe they're playing so friggin' close... that's like just a few miles from my house !

How did they get THIS gig ???

Incidentally, I renamed the song that's from that jam session that's posted here on HRC to 'Smashville', in honor of Nashvilles Predators... which should be getting beaten by the Red Wings in just a few hours .

yeah, SHOULD! but they won't §=oP

DBD has been talkin' with AT about dooin' some michigan shows for a while now, and Beau (bass play for AT) booked them about 6 months ago...well DBD kinda 'forgot' about that gig until last weekend....or atleast that's how i think the story goes, i'm not real positive....man i'm so stoked for you, you're gettin' the best nashville has to offer as far as good 'ole boy local throwdown metal goes....these guys will stomp some *** then pick it up and get it drunk, then wipe it.

as for the Rock Bass, i've had one go thru the parents store and i wasn't really impressed with the quality of the instrument (both in build, and tone)...and that god awful headstock! that thing is just out there....then again the Bongo is pretty damn ugly aswell...mmmmm Bongo i want it...

Hell yeah... I'm pretty stoked myself ! The place they're playing is small but nice, and should offer their audience a real intimate encounter with 'em . Another thing to be said for that bar... they like it nice and LOUD ! I'm gon'na bring as many folks as I can, but the place should be packed, even without my help .

Do you think I should bootleg it ? heh heh

What are you friggin' psychic ?! What's that little sqwiggle on the end of you sentence ?... some sort of hex on the Wings ? (8 o

Paul Kariya gets a hat-trick !?! I hate Paul Kariya Arrrgh... Predators 7, Wings 3 final .

Even though that game didn't matter at all, I didn't like seeing the regular season end like THAT .

Oh well... let the playoffs begin . Cheers .

omg i never considered myseelf Carl Thompson worthy, but geez Les Claypools bass shoulda poped right in my head!!! DUH as for ken smith, i havn't really looked into them aswell....my mom found some kinda rare ibanez that's no longer in production which perked my intrest.....good sugestions there Noize thanks!

the squiggle is supposed to be my smilie's hair (alt + 7,8,9) and both bands WILL be loud, bring ear plugs with ya....i don't think anyone will mind if ya bootleg, i'll doubble check to make sure, but everyone that i know shouldn't have a problem....Jamie (bass) just got a new ampeg cab (8 10's) to go along with his other cab (6 10's) but i don't think he'll be running both cabs at once...also they got rid of one of the guitar players, no bad blood, he was just the weakest link and they're wantin' to step things up and take it more seriously.

hmmmm, i'd take two LDC's and throw them in some sorta 'sweet spot' in the room spaced pair style (XY is hard to pull off with LDC's without a good stand)....tappin' the board via inserts will give you some wiggle room, but ya gott check with the sound guy ahead of time, some of 'em are real pickey about that....OOoOOoo better yet just one LCD plus anything you could get from the board would be neat... wear a 58 around the neck for that (i was there) feel!! haha

WYD, Ken Smith's stuff is a bit cheaper then the Carl Thompson stuff. Not anyless worthy though by any means. I have played on both of their basses and guitars and they are astounding. Not cheap by any means but astounding at any cost.

Ya, Claypools Rainbow bass is what made me think of CT for sure. It is a 6 string, but Thompson does 5 strings as well as 4. But indeed Claypools Piccallo bass is pretty cool sounding, and both 4 strings as well.
