Is there a check box to enable/disable the MIDI metronome? In one of the versions of Cubase there was an option for this...if I enabled it, the metronome would go away, but if I disabled it must have used a .WAV or something because I could hear it. Maybe check in the options for metronome properties? Just a shot in the dark...I'm not a Sonar user.

I don't know what version of Sonar you're using but in Sonar 4 Producer there are two icons you can click on in the metronome section of the toolbar. One looks like a sideview of a speaker and one looks like a female midi connector. If I click on the one that looks like a speaker the metronome sounds off my Delta 66 and if I click on the midi icon it sounds on my soundblaster. I hope this helps but I'm sure someone here will have an answer if it doesn't.

You might want to take some time and fill in your profile, it will help others to help you in the future.

bt, what version of Sonar are you using?

There has been a metronome function since the Pro Audio days. But its functionality changed a bit as Sonar grew up. Let me know and I'll point ya in the right direction. I have been using Cakewalk products from the begining and still run the older version's just for answering these questions.

OK, that is a start.

You say you cant use the software synths that came with Sonar? I dont understand that part.

OR do you mean you cant use them for the metronome?

If that is the case, yes indeed you can. It wont play via the metronome but you can make your own in a sort of round about way. Simply open Velocity and load a drum kit. Now step write your metronome beat in the piano roll to what ever drum sound you wish. Then simply copy it over in the midi track for Velocity for as long as you need.

That was the old school way of doing it for those who didnt have an outboard synth to use for the metronome.

The PC speaker will work, but as you stated it is pretty lame.

Let me know if you have any other questions on it and I'll try and walk you through it.

I alwasy kept a few differant tempo tracks like that stored as midi track just for that kind of use.

I also don't understand what you mean by not being able to use the softsynths. If it's just a case of not having a midi playing device then the following might help...

I don't know if Sonar 3 has the TTS-1 DXi synth but if it does, you can go to Insert > DXi synth > TTS-1 and it will put that on it's own track in your multitrack view. Then you can use a makeshift midi track like Noize described above and set the output to the TTS-1. Then the software synth should play over your motu 828 firewire I would think.

My delta card does not have any midi but I do this all the time.

Ya, I guess I left that part out. Thanx for bringing that up Sam.

Even without a true midi port the softsynth will still work in Sonar for you by simply using the mid track it inserts with it. You simply open the piano roll for that track and write yourself a beat and away you go.

ok, ive used teh softsyths for drum triggers, thats the only experience i have w/ them and midi

as far as making or copying my metronome track into the softsynth i dont follow, if you get a chance try to reply step by step

once i get midi recorded i can get it to play, dont know how to load drumkit or write in w/ piano role.

OK bt. I will give ya a step by step. But it wont be untill Friday evening or Saturday afternoon. But I will definately try and walk you through it. It isnt really to bad once you get gong with it.

And once you get a tempo track laid out you can save it and use it over again. You will simply drop it in and the thempo will adjust to fit the project.
