I want my M-Audio Radium 49 to be able to control the VSTi synths and the VST mixer in Cubase sx. I've read the documentation several times but it's all gibberish to me. Anyone have any easy walkthrus?

In most I have used, I just right click on a controller in the VSTi and there is an option in there that says "assign controller" or something like that...click that option, then, start moving the controller on the Radium you want to assign to it, it'll start moving and there ya go...then you should be able to save that mapping within the VSTi, at least you can on most of the better VSTi's, not sure if it's all that easy on the cheapr or freeware synths...so there could be a difference.

well the synths aren't a big deal, it's easy plug and play. The thing i'm having trouble with is setting up the radium as a remote control to control the vst mixer. I want to have as many banks of 8 sliders and 8 pan knobs as possible... The stuff seems like it's possible, I just can't make it out.

The approach is the same for the VST mixer, at least it is in Sonar. Simply right click as above. Then choose learn or assign control or whatever Cubase ask's. Then move the knob or fader and it should now be assigned the same as the instruments.

got it, had to go into devices, device setup, click the plus sign, hit generic remote, and set that up. That was the gobblygook i was talking about.

Alright, so the Midi control is figured out, read the documentation and got it sorted. Now, somehow I messed everything up and am getting terrible latency with audio and midi. Heres how everything is set up... maybe someone can help me.

ASIO Multimedia Driver Tab:
ASIO Drive Name = ASIO Multimedia Driver
Input Latency = 110.000 ms
Output Latency = 749.932 ms
Clock Source - Internal

I think click on the Control Panel button which brings me a screen showing this:

Sample Rate (pull down menu) = 44100 Hz
Output Ports
M-Audio Delta 44 Multi - Audio Buffers = 5 - Buffer Size (samples) = 5512 - Offset (samples) = 0- Audio Channels = 2 - Bits per sample = 16 - Sync Reference = yes

M-Audio Delta 44 1/2 - Audio Buffers = 5 - Buffer Size (samples) = 5512 - Offset (samples) = 0- Audio Channels = 2 - Bits per sample = 16 - Sync Reference = no

M-Audio Delta 44 3/4 - Audio Buffers = 5 - Buffer Size (samples) = 5512 - Offset (samples) = 0- Audio Channels = 2 - Bits per sample = 16 - Sync Reference = no
Aureal Audio - Audio Buffers = 5 - Buffer Size (samples) = 5512 - Offset (samples) = 0- Audio Channels = 2 - Bits per sample = 16 - Sync Reference = No (DESELECTED)

Input Ports:
M-Audio Delta 44 Multi - Audio Buffers = 5 - Buffer Size (samples) = 4096 - Offset (samples) = 0- Audio Channels = 2 - Bits per sample = 16 - Sync Reference = No

M-Audio Delta 44 1/2 - Audio Buffers = 5 - Buffer Size (samples) = 6144 - Offset (samples) = 0- Audio Channels = 2 - Bits per sample = 16 - Sync Reference = No

M-Audio Delta 44 3/4 - Audio Buffers = 5 - Buffer Size (samples) = 4096 - Offset (samples) = 0- Audio Channels = 2 - Bits per sample = 16 - Sync Reference = no

M-Audio Delta 44 Mon. Mixer - Audio Buffers = 5 - Buffer Size (samples) = 4096 - Offset (samples) = 0- Audio Channels = 2 - Bits per sample = 16 - Sync Reference = No. DELSECTED

Aureal Audio - Audio Buffers = 5 - Buffer Size (samples) = 5292 - Offset (samples) = 0- Audio Channels = 2 - Bits per sample = 16 - Sync Reference = no DESELECTED

Global Settings:
Sync Reference = Sample Position - Output

OK, I am not the most knowledgable in tweaking these things, I typically just run on default settings, but, the buffer seems really high to me...

The buffer size or the number of buffers (the 5 or 5000)?

buffer size...don't they normally run around 256 or something?

Haven't a clue boss. This is all that gobbledygook techno stuff that scares me because I think it's magic... All I know is my set up used to work, and I guess I hit a button somewhere that says "twist it all to bits" and now it doesn't work anymore

Oh my god Dan, I am an idiot. All I had to do was switch it over to the friggin M-Audio ASIO drivers..... Man I did everything else, I never even saw that button until now. Got it fixed though. Sheesh

Well, I guess I just assumed, from an above post that you had already selected ASIO.

That's what I get for assuming...

I seriously didn't se that button until just then man. Thats why I was digging into it, cause all the easy problems had been sorted out (i thought) God, that's what I get for trying to screw with stuff when I just get up.

But ya, the buffer shoudl run anywhere from 128 to 512 depending on the speed your PC is capable of. 512 is a good all around staring point and you can go down from there. The lower the buffer the lower the latency, but the more chance of pops and clicks during playback of heavy loaded tracks.
