It is a decent dynamic mic, good for drums as well as other acoustic instruments. It appears it is good for lower end type sounds but can cover a pretty good range. Price appears to be pretty standard in that range.

Is it new or used?

NO I havent used the Alesis. But I have allready read several aritcles with people having issues with hardware compatability on them. The Phonics units seem to be having better compatability ratings so far then Alesis. I assume it is only a matter of time and Alesis will get it figured out though.

Firewire is still in its infancy for audio interfaces and the like so I would try to avoid it for at least a little while untill they get them working stable with all PC hardware and get their drivers working properly.

USB interfaces seem to be doing much better at the moment. I have started using a Line 6 UX-2 mainly for the guitar portion of it, but its USB interface works flawlessly here without any trouble at all.

But the USB only allows stereo recording correct? It can't do 4-8 simultaneous record?
