Main Effects

Should the Main Effect (the effect used to add effect to the entire mix) be used during the mixing process at all or should you only use the effects option on each individual track? If the Main FX should not be used during the mixing process when should it be used? Thank you...

Well the only effect I might ever really use on the main mix might be reverb, or final compresion.

I will usually effect each track on its own. Or in the case of groups of instruments, vocals etc. you might send them to a seperate buss or subgroup in your DAW and run a single effect for that group. IN my case sometimes I will make these seperate bussing groups. Drums, Guitars, keys, vocals, horns, backing vocals etc.. This way I cand give each group its own set of processors to achieve a better sound in the main mix.
