Devices from 110Volts to 200Volts....

Hello,

I'm not sure if anyone on this forum has done this. But this is the only place I can put this question.
I'm planning to purchase an Alesis 3630 compressor, A UB1002FX Mixer (Just decided ;-) and a few mics fom the US and take it with me to India for a few recordings. Voltage here is 110V - 60 Hz and in India its 230V - 50Hz. I can get the voltage stepped down to 110V from 230V. But acheiving the 60Hz from the 50Hz is very difficult. Would running the devices at 110V and 50Hz cause any problems (with the devices + recording)? Has anyone in the forum done this before?

Appreciate any inputs,
Thanks,
Ash...

According to Behringer, you can get a 230v, 50Hz power supply (MXEU6) for that unit. You'll have to figure out where you get one.

to be real honest, a 3630 will do next to nothing for your recordings (if you're recording on a computer) i've got one, and it's great in live situations, but adds alot of noize and kills clarity when tracking in a studio environment....i'd hold off on that one if i were you.

Thanks again DungBeatle. I'll try to get this from the dealers here.
whosyourdaddy00 thanks for this input.
I was totally unaware of the 3630's behavior.
Is there any other compressor that you would recommend for recording purposes?

For the record, and from a "make due" frame of mind, the 1002 FX, if it has the same effects package as the other UB series mixers, has a compressor that isn't the best in the world, and not tweakable, but is usable, and is the same basic compressor that is found in their virtualizer unit (or one of their bigger effects units, I think thats the one). So you likely could get by with that and at least see if it fits your needs. I've gotten by with it a couple times. The 3630 is OK, it can do the job and does for many, but isn't the best in the world.

According to the spec sheet, the UB1002FX doesn't have a compressor... :( the RNC is highly regarded though...

yeppers, i ditched my 3630 for an RNC and the quality difference is most noticable, one thing though, the RNC is stereo but you only have one set of controls...which sucks, but still, i'll sacrafice a bit of functionality for quality.

I would totally agree with the quality part of the sound. Definitely more important than the functionalities. RNC is in my list now :-)... Just that the price is quite a bit more than my former choice.

I've heard nothing but great things about the Really Nice Compressor. I'm still getting along somewhat OK without an outboard compressor, but when I do get one that'll certainly be it.

Ashwin, if the RNC is a little pricey you might want to look into a Behringer compressor as well. I use the Composer Pro and I believe it has a less expensive little brother that works much better then the 3630 and isnt nearly as expensive as the RNC.

Noise2u, are you referring to the Behringer MDX2600 Composer Pro XL Processor... or something similar?

That would be the one Ashwin. There is a model which I forget the number of, but it is a slightly cheaper and does most of the same thing, only I believe it eliminates the expander section is all.
