Similar format to the last one I posted. Another, kind-of spoken word, a bit out there again... woman who needs revenge... Been molested and abused, she'll be back...

Man, I got goose bumps from that one. She just sounded angry in the vox and it really comes through that way. I wanted to hide in the closet!

The delay effect really adds some drama to the spoken part.

I would maybe bring the level of the delayed repeat down a pinch though during the chorus part as it kinda of rings over the main vocal bit. As she gets louder the delayed part kind of overtakes the main vocal part. Do you have it going for more then 1 repeat? If so try reducing the feedback just a tiny bit. Or maybe the better idea would be to set the mix a little more to the dry side, so the delayed vocal is a little less present.

The delay give it a realy cold feel, which adds to the feel of the song. So it should still be very present, maybe just not as strong in the chorus part. Can you automate it to build up a near the end of the chorus, that would really add some chill?

The instrument solo portion as well adds a really gritty feel to the tune.

Otherwise, I love this one as well. She is great at both the spoken part and the singing. She has a very powerfull voice for that kind of music and it fits in very well with the instumentation you have choosen. May I ask who wrote the lyrics for both these tunes?

Thanks for the detailed feedback Noize! Glad you liked it. She does have a mean sound in her voice when she wants to. I can bring that echo part down in the chorus, it's actually on a different track and mixed in. I fed her vocal through an amp sim and output it on a separate track so I could blend the two. I made a copy of the vocal, reversed it, then ran the echo and reverb to a separate track, then reversed that track, that's why it sounds weird. Since it's on a separate track, I already fade her vocal out and the feddback/amp sim in... I'll just make it more prominent at a more crucial moment. I sometimes get carried away with effects...

I wrote the music and lyrics for both tunes...

The clarity on the vocals is incredible. I haven't heard of that mic pre that you're using, and I haven't used the AT mic you mention in your pofile either. But they really sparkle.

Great mixing. The whole frequency spectrum is well represented and balanced. Very hi-fi for sure.

I kind of like the delay in the chorus. Not sure if you changed it since the previous posts but I like it the way it is, with the reverse reverb and distortion it sounds like.

Another atmospheric tune, and a job well done.

Thanks Tony, appreciate the feedback. Glad you enjoyed it. As far as the vocal washing out, I'll check into it. I'm figuring the end of the chorus? Could be the effects... Thanks!

Tad, thanks for the kind words! The Manley mic pre is really good for adding alot of color. That AT mic is really quiet and clean and can sound sterile without a tube pre. Here's a link to the Manley website (I have the mono version):

www.manleylabs.com/containerpages/dualmono99.html

Haven't changed anything yet, but when I do, I'll keep a copy of the current version just in case I screw something up. Thanks again for the feedback!

Question: What genre do I place this stuff in? Not trying to pidgeon-hole my music, but when I try to place my music with publishers, they always ask. Or they want to know what other bands/artists my stuff sounds like. I have no clue... I'm going to submit some of this for movie background music.

Thanks!

Whoa... intense .

I see what Noize2u is saying about the delay build-up being a bit over the top, but it really does lend to the song, and I love the way it slid right into that guitar piece .

Veddy nice work !

Thanks for the feedback, Hue! The vocal at the end of the chorus slides into the same vocal track run through an amp simulator. The amp simulator made her voice sound like a feedback guitar. It was a fun effect and makes her sound downright SCAREY!

In fact, there's no real instruments played except my daughter's vocal part. I clicked all the notes in using a mouse in Cakewalk 3.0... Mostly it's the Kurzweil K2500.

ya, whatever ya do dont loose the effect at the end of the chorus part. Turn it back up for that and let it rip. As it really does add drama to that part of the song for sure.

On the Manley stuff. I have used them in the past and they are stunning for th price. Warm and cuddly, or outright blaring. What ever your color it will do it. And hand built stuff as well. Worth every penny they charge.

Again, I gotta give my compliments to DungBeatle and his daughter. I cant wait to hear how it sounds after a little tweaking, keep us posted.

By the way, do you find the K2500 pretty versitile for a hardware synth/sampler. I have an opportunity to trade some work for one thats been upgraded to whatever the current rev is. And I'm just wondering if it would be worth keeping. All the software synths and samplers I have now absolutely blow away any of the hardware I have owned. And editing is so much easier and graphic in the software. I dont know if I wanna get into another big piece of hardware.

I doubt it would impress you. I like mine alot, I've had it for 6 or 7 years or so, but I want software synths from now on. If I had a chance to get another one for the right price, I would. But that's because I already have one and a pretty good investment in Kurz samples. It maxes out at 128MB of ram, that's hardly enough for anything these days. And editing on it is better than most other hardware samplers, but a real computer is king...

And thanks again for the kind words!

Thats what I thought about the memorey as well. Seeing as how I can stream unlimited samples from disc with the newer software samplers and synths. I do like the sounds you are getting though. Maybe I will have to look for some Kurz. samples and a converter to get them into a format I can use here.

Thanx for the info for sure.

For the most part I use for drums:
www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DrumCD/

Guitars:
www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GuitarCD/

Strings:
www.soundsonline.com/soph...html?sku=DJ-004

And I have alot of programs I put together myself from wav files I downloaded a few years ago from Primesounds....

Then I get sound effects from:

Thanx DungBeatle. Did you see the strings are now on sale for $39.00. I use a lot of EastWest stuff and got hooked up with SoundsOnline awhile ago. They have some great stuff and really push the Orchestra set lately. I have a ton of excellant strings collected over the years. Not the best guitar sounds collection though, although being able to play myself helps a bit there.

I have looked at that sound FX library before and wondered if it might be worth it instead of sampling everything myself. Then I just decided I could spend the money elswhere and keep creating my own FX.

Yeah, that price sure is low... must be closing it out. I've been wanting to get equipment to do field recording, but just haven't the capital yet. I'd do alot more ambient/outdoors stuff if I had that kind of equipment. The Denny Jaeger strings are pretty good, they have some special effects playing that I've used. But the expensive stuff, like Garritan and Miroslav Vitous are out of my reach right now. Gotta get a new computer, Giga Sampler, Sonar 5, yada... too much...

Honestly I have been using a Sony MiniDisk for years with great results. and it is relativly cheap. The condensor mic was around $100.00 though. You can find the MD recorders on Ebay pretty cheap for a low end one. And they do the job just fine.

I'd like to get something like the Marantz PMD671:
www.rmcaudio.com/marantz/pmd671.htm

And use Compact Flash media. No moving parts. I heard poor reports about the PMD670, noisy mic preamps. But the 671 is supposed to have upgraded ones. I have yet to find an unbiased review of the 671...

Nice piece of gear there. I owned one of their older DAT units years ago and it was great. Other then it never held a charge for very long. But it was a great little unit.

I finally found a review.. guy says the mic pres are almost as noisy as the 670. -65dB just ain't gonna be good enough. Now I gotta figure something else out for a portable recording solution...

Bummer, if it could just get down to maybe -85 or -90 you might be good to go.
