Tears Drippin' Down Your Back

I'd appreciate knowing your impressions of this tune. It's based on one of the experiments I put up for review in January (Experiment 3). It's listed as Hip-Hop: Spoken Word, but I really don't have a clue where I should place it. So if someone thinks they know, I'd sure like to know too... My daughter is speaking/singing in this. The intro is unfinished, I need to get some real street/city sounds to finish up. The idea is: woman waits in the shadows to get revenge on her ex-guy who arrives, walks down the street and she follows...

Thanks in advance!

Well recorded for sure man. Sounds very lush. Nice stereo effects and use of the stereo field.

Its definitely a moody piece, almost reminds me of something off of Outside by Bowie. Lots of ambience and cool little things going on. Your daughter has a great voice.

As a guitarist I can pick out the keyboard guitar samples but I have to say thats pretty darn convincing. You're obviously an accomplished keyboard player!

I dont know exactly what genre I would put this in. The style of the music could fit several to be honest. There is a touch of Classical in there, very ballad like. A bit of New Age as well. Possibly Jazz/Rock Fusion as. The beat definately touchs slightly on Hip Hop in places. But the lower end is almost Dark Metal like when combined with the spoken word parts.

I would like to play this for a few people to get a couple of opinions if I may.

My personal take is you are combining some genre's and coming up with an original sound, very haunting but playable as well. A few years back I could think of a couple radio stations that would have played this. I personally would play it, if I owned a radio station.

As well I have to agree on the accomplished keyboardist part. Youre guitar emulations are pretty damn good if you ask me.

Oh ya, if I could make 2 thumbs appear instead of 1 above I would!

Noize

I'm now going to give it a rest having listened about 8 or 9 times. To come back and see if I cant figure out just where this piece fits, genre wise.

Tadpui,
Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated. Glad you found it interesting. I'll have to check out Outside by Bowie, as I'm not familiar with that album (unless it has cuts that made it to popular radio).

Noize,
I really appreciate the listen! Sure, play it for anyone you wish! It's certainly some kind of hybrid, but can't pigeon-hole it. It sometimes sounds similar to hip-hop and then it sounds like spoken-word. But it never sounds like one thing. I agree on the Dark-metal... Geeze, I agree on all the flavors...

Thanks for the kind words!

I can't think of any singles off of Outside...maybe "Heart's Filthy Lesson" or "Hallo Spaceboy" made it to the radio. Its a pretty cool art-rock concept album about a serial killer who disembowels his victims and makes sculptures out of them. Very dark, very electronic, and one of my top favorite Bowie albums (I'm a big fan if you can't tell hehehe).

I agree with Tad here. I dont think there were any singles released, at least to American radio off that album. It is good however, kinda adventurous even.

Amazon has the album and all but one track to sample:

I see now what you're saying. He used alot of interesting effects and some general weirdness on some of those tracks. I can't say I recognize even one tune though. "Wishful Beginnings" is one track that has similar feel to what I'm doing here. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah that CD wasn't much of a commercial success, but I think it was definitely an artistic win. He was hanging out with Trent Reznor a lot, and that industrial/electronica influence came through very strong on that album.

Oh ya, and I forgot the track I'm Deranged was on the Lost Highway soundtrack, along with several of Trents tunes. But then Trent did the sound track as well. If your into the listen that is another good one with lots of differant tastes on it. Weird movie, but excelant sound track.

I don't believe I've seen the movie, "Lost Highway" but IMD says it was co-written and directed by David Lynch and I really like his movies. I'll have to rent it...

It is a very strange kinda movie. I'm not to easily disturbed by much. But I honestly found a few instances during the movie that made me think, holy crap!!

A very deranged kinda movie. And definately David Lynch type stuff.
